SHOCKING SECRET FOR YOU!!! Who was Josh Tucker in Coronation Street and what is his history with David?
Coronation Street has revisited one of David Platt’s most devastating storylines thanks to Jodie’s latest cruel dig. For long-time viewers of the Manchester-based soap, the mention of Josh Tucker is a grim reminder of one of Weatherfield’s most harrowing storylines.
Jodie, played by Olivia Frances Brown crossed a brutal line after her failed attempts to manipulate her brother-in-law David spiralled into humiliation. After trying to coerce a drunken David into sleeping with her, Jodie lashed out when her plan backfired, cruelly weaponising David’s past trauma by referencing Josh Tucker during an explosive confrontation this Wednesday (28 April).
The comment led to David and Sarah throwing her out despite her sister Shona’s earlier willingness to help her. For newer viewers, Josh wasn’t just a former resident of the cobbles. He was the man responsible for one of David’s darkest and most life-altering ordeals.

Played by Ryan Clayton, Josh first arrived in Weatherfield in January 2018 as a mechanic at Webster’s Autocentre, following Luke Britton’s death. On the surface, he seemed charismatic and community-minded, quickly making an impact by organising a charity boxing match in Luke’s memory.
It was there that Josh first formed a connection with David (played by Jack P. Shepherd). Initially, Josh appeared to be exactly what David needed: a friend who encouraged him and even trained with him ahead of the boxing match. But something far more sinister lurked under all that charm.

As David spent more time with Josh, Shona began feeling increasingly sidelined — and Josh exploited that emotional wedge. After David argued with Shona, Josh used the fallout to isolate him further, inviting him on a night out before secretly spiking his drink. He then lured David back to his flat, where he raped him despite David’s repeated pleas.

The storyline marked one of Coronation Street‘s most powerful and painful explorations of male sexual assault. In the aftermath, David’s trauma manifested in devastating ways. He withdrew emotionally and pushed Shona away while attempting to process what had happened. Rather than immediately seeking justice, David remained silent for months; a heartbreakingly realistic portrayal of the confusion and fear many survivors face.
Meanwhile, Josh continued to avoid accountability. For a significant period, he carried on with life in Weatherfield, even beginning a relationship with Alya Nazir while hiding his crimes. His ability to maintain a normal front made his presence disturbing as David continued to secretly deal with the fallout of his assault.
The tide only began to turn when Shona (Julia Goulding) took matters into her own hands by investigating Josh’s past and eventually uncovering another victim, Declan Lonsdale, who had also accused Josh of sexual assault. Once David finally found the strength to speak out, Josh’s carefully constructed image began to collapse.

His downfall, however, was neither quick nor simple. Josh initially attempted to flee, one for his predatory behaviour to resurface when he targeted another man, Ethan. After Ethan discovered Josh’s intentions, he violently attacked him, leaving Josh blind.
In one especially tense chapter, David encountered Josh in prison, where Josh (now incarcerated for further sexual violence) attempted to goad him into killing him before framing David for a stabbing.

Josh was eventually brought to court for his crimes, and David had the chance to testify against him. The trial ended with Josh receiving a 15-year custodial sentence for raping David and another victim, finally facing justice for the suffering he inflicted.
Now, as David and Shona could face another obstacle in their relationship, Jodie is one of five potential victims in danger during Corrie’s much-anticipated murder week.
