Ahead of the marathon, Liam took to Instagram to ask fans for their support while explaining how his choice in charity was linked to the ITV soap.

“Now, I don’t usually do videos like this, but I have a massive favour to ask and I really hope that you can help,” he said in a clip posted to Instagram.

“I’ve signed up to do the Manchester Marathon. I signed up last week, so I’m really cutting it short. I’ve got two weeks to train, I’m gonna give it my best shot.”

He continued: “The charity I’m gonna be doing it for is Charlie’s Promise, which means a heck of a lot to me.

“We did a lot of work with them when we did the knife prevention story on Corrie. They’re doing unbelievable work, so that’s what’s gonna get me through this marathon.

“I’m gonna give it my best shot, like I said, for an amazing cause. And if you can help, it’d be greatly appreciated.”

Coronation Street fans were in disbelief after Liam McCheyne’s latest update.

The soap star is renowned for his role as Dylan Wilson on the Cobbles. He has won acclaim for his portrayal through a difficult storyline after Liam Connor Jr was targeted by bullies.

Mason Radcliffe has led the horrific bullying campaign and forced Dylan to co-operate as he hid the knife used to threaten Liam. Dylan was handed a community service order for his part in the ordeal but his mum, Violet, returned to Weatherfield last night.

Violet was disgusted by what her son had become embroiled him and whisked Dylan away back to London as he bid farewell to the Cobbles on Wednesday’s show. Violet is played by Jenny Platt and Liam shared a snap of the two actors after yesterday’s show.

He said: “Violet’s back! In my opinion, she wasn’t the best pleased to see Dylan.. Quite the opposite to this lovely picture.”

Fans took to the comments and were concerned Dylan’s exit yesterday could be permanent. Jamie said: “I can’t believe you’ve left..I liked you living with Sean x”

Lucy added: “Liam please don’t leave coronation street if you leave then I will stop watching it.” Simon posted: “Please tell me you are coming back your a great actor and the future of corrie”

Steven commented: “Great actor. Hope to see you back soon.” However, other fans think Dylan’s exit will be short-lived and he will soon return.

Christian said: “I think he’ll be back it was to sudden to be a true leaving anyway Jenny Platt signed a multi episode deal”
