Emmerdale to revisit Cain and Charity’s secret deal in baby plot

Emmerdale Soap Scoop! Moira tells Cain the truth
Emmerdale will revisit a past deal between Cain and Charity Dingle amid the latter’s dramatic baby storyline, which has seen her hide a bombshell secret from various friends and family members.
Charity agreed to carry a baby for granddaughter Sarah Sugden, who is now married to Jacob. In a drama-filled plot on the ITV soap, Charity gave birth to baby Leyla in the lift at the hospital, with Mackenzie Boyd and Ross Barton present.

The baby isn’t actually Sarah and Jacob’s, however, but rather the daughter of Charity and Ross after the pair slept together. Their one-night stand, as well as the details regarding Leyla’s parentage, is only known by the pair at the centre of the drama.
Before Leyla was born, Charity had a conversation with Cain, and he gave her a Saint Christopher necklace. He promised to be there for her if she ever needed him, but that could be tricky given her secret.
With the villainous Dr Caitlin Todd – who harbours a grudge against Jacob – blackmailing Charity after discovering her secret, it seems likely that the secret will come out one way or another, which would test Cain’s promise to Charity.

“When this baby stuff comes out, she’s going to come and see Cain,” explained Jeff Hordley, who plays Cain. “It would be a great thing if he does step up for her. I would like to see that.
“Emma [Atkins, who plays Charity] and I have got a big history in the show. I’ve not seen that episode but I’ve heard it’s really lovely. I like the fact that he did say that [he’d support Charity].”
While Cain promised to be there for Charity, he has found a confidante in the shape of Sarah, who helped him come to terms with his cancer diagnosis. Following several emotional scenes, Hordley praised co-star Katie Hill, who plays Sarah.

“Katie has been great,” he said. “That episode where the camera was on Cain and the pair of us came into view at the end, she was just amazing. Throughout all of this story she’s just such a good young actor and she’s been a joy to work with.
“Sadly we’ve not got Charley Webb [who played Debbie] anymore, but I think she steps into those shoes really well. It’s a slightly different dynamic, but it has some similarities. She’s a character that can also get Cain to talk.”
