Gwen and Leo Reconnecting on DAYS Could Mean Trouble for Salem
After years of being estranged, former besties Gwen and Leo have made amends on Days of our Lives. They may not be fully back to best-friend mode, but they definitely have ulterior motives.
Key Takeaways
- Gwen and Leo’s reunion spells trouble, but for who?
- More than meets the eye with Leo and Gwen’s sudden reconnection.
- Why their friendship works.
Burying The Hatchet
DAYS fans were given a bit of a surprise when Leo (Greg Rikaart) and Gwen (Emily O’Brien) rekindled their friendship. Their living across the hall from each other at the Salem Inn gave the perfect opportunity to reunite these former pals.
Unfortunately, for the rest of Salem, these two are a scheming duo that tends to bring nothing but drama. Both Gwen and Leo are all about getting what they want and not letting anyone get in their way.
When they put their devious heads together, the schemes start flowing. The list of people who could feel their wrath is endless.
Although we must say that Gwen seems to be more vindictive right now than this new version of Leo. Javi (Al Calderon) certainly softened Leo, but something tells us Gwen might change that in him.
There’s also the possibility that the trouble the rekindled bonding between Gwen and Leo will bring will be to each other. After all, EJ (Daniel Feuerriegel) freaking out that Gwen was living across the hall from Leo raised red flags.
EJ won’t let anyone come in the way of his latest project, bringing Lexie (Nikki Crawford) back from the dead. If Leo gets too close, he won’t hesitate to force Gwen to get rid of her pal. Leo could also find out the truth and simply blackmail Gwen, adding another layer to this reunion.
The Friendship DAYS Should Really Keep Going Strong
While we know that there has to be something else to Gwen and Leo’s sudden reconnection, we hope it’s the real deal. Before Leo ruined their bond by hooking up with Dimitri (Peter Porte) and falling in love with him, Gwen and Leo were thick as thieves.
They were both outsiders, so their having each other made their friendship special. DAYS has many strong friendships on the show, and Leo and Gwen used to be one of them.
Aside from that, let’s be honest, Rikaart and O’Brien are beyond entertaining to watch in any scenes. However, there’s something special about watching them bring out the vulnerable side to Gwen and Leo as only a true bestie can.
Whatever comes next, one thing is for sure. It will be fun to watch, especially if there’s more to this bestie reunion than meets the eye.

On Days of our Lives, Gwen is back in Salem and once again living in the kind of chaos that seems to follow her like perfume. Her fortune disappeared the moment Dimitri regained control of it, Melinda refused to handle her divorce case, and her latest project involves Dr. Rolf bringing people (and rats) back to life. Amid all that chaos is Leo, someone Gwen insists she wants nothing to do with anymore. Dimitri destroyed their friendship, and Gwen essentially erased Leo from her life. The twist is that Leo might be the only one left who can actually help her.
Key Takeaways
- Leo currently has leverage over Dimitri because he remains one of the few people still willing to help him.
- Leo could use that leverage to demand that Gwen receive a share of Dimitri’s fortune.
- A deal like that could help repair Gwen and Leo’s broken friendship.
- Gwen and Leo previously worked well together as chaotic allies in Salem.
- Reuniting them could give both characters a much-needed partner again.
Leo Holds the Leverage
Right now, Leo (Greg Rikaart) is caught up in Dimitri’s (Peter Porte) latest overseas disaster, in Alamania. This is exactly where things could change for him. Dimitri might still have money, but his list of allies keeps shrinking every day.
Gwen (Emily O’Brien) wants revenge, Salem would gladly see Dimitri disappear again, and Leo remains one of the few people willing to stand in the same room with him. That alone gives Leo something he rarely has in these situations: leverage.
If Leo decided to use it, the deal could be straightforward. Dimitri gets Leo’s help with proving his innocence in the kidnapping of The DiMeras, but only if Gwen receives a large share of Dimitri’s fortune. Dimitri has always been driven by survival first and pride second, which means he might actually consider it if the alternative is facing his problems alone.
Gwen and Leo Were Better Together
Before Dimitri ruined their friendship, Gwen and Leo were some of the most entertaining besties Salem ever had. Their unique brand of chaos worked because they understood each other’s instincts. And their equally sharp wits made for some truly entertaining banter. Both of them usually preferred mischief over moral purity, making them unpredictably unpredictable in the best possible way.
If Leo managed to force Dimitri to share the money, it could help mend the rift between them. Gwen would finally regain some stability, and Leo would prove he hadn’t completely abandoned her when things got tough.

More importantly, it would give both of them something they currently lack: a partner. Salem tends to work best when the schemers team up, and Gwen and Leo together are far more entertaining than either of them flailing alone.
Days of Our Lives just dropped not just one, but two mysteries on our hands. And while at first they may seem fairly innocuous, they could be the beginning of the end of Body and Soul and the first couple volleys in a return set to redeem a character with a very troubled past! Yes, that’s right, poisoned cupcakes could actually be a good thing!
Everyone figures Hattie poisoned the cupcakes as part of her revenge curse. And Leo assumes Javi is the one that swiped his scripts to restart Lady Whistleblower as a soap spoiler. But we all know that the obvious suspects are never the ones to do the actual crime.
If Hattie didn’t do send the cupcakes and Jada’s sister isn’t back, intent on unleashing Tainted Biscuits 2: Poisoned Cupcake Boogaloo (Kayla’s incredulous reaction to the possibility of tainted baked goods again said it all), we may have to think outside the box a bit. Add in Lady Whistleblower’s spoiler and we’ve So who would be out to tank the soap and spoil all of Leo’s secrets? Well, some viewers suggested a culprit we never would have thought of at first: Gwen. But now that he have, we have to say, the theory’s kind of brilliant.

She’s got nothing against the soap opera that we know of, but she sure as heck has a bone to pick with Leo for betraying her and sleeping with her husband. Not to mention, never telling her about Dimitri’s fortune and the whole marrying Gwen and convincing her she was loved for nothing more than money!
If Gwen somehow got her hands on Leo’s scripts — maybe she got the Von Leuschner fortune and hired a hacker — she could use them to expose every single secret that they filmed. She could spill Leo’s ideas before they happened and screw up his ability to write. And using Lady Whistleblower, she could destroy his fallback career at the same time. Add in the poison cupcakes scaring off the cast and crew and Body and Soul could be in dire straits.
Granted, Gwen, , won’t be back until the summer, but we doubt what just happened would cancel Body and Soul right away. Her delayed return would just give her more time to keep chipping away at it and Leo behind the scenes until the whole thing falls apart.
How perfect would it be if no one but the viewers ever find out who really brought Body and Soul down? If she comes back and the folks in Salem know she’s the one who tanked the production, she’d be right back to a pariah, unwelcome by pretty much anyone. Plus, she sent Roman to the hospital and poisoned Abe and Alex. No one died, but it’s better if she kept this to herself.

Normally viewers are clamoring for misdeeds to get exposed and bad guys to get their comeuppance… But we have a feeling that if Gwen brings the whole Body and Soul house of cards crumbling down, this is one secret that folks would be OK with staying buried.
We know Body and Soul’s cancellation is coming, and we don’t know that a ton of folks will mourn it. And if Gwen ends up being the one to end it, she could earn some goodwill with the viewers. Onscreen, she could work to redeem herself in the eyes of everyone in Salem, while offscreen, she’d already have done that quite a bit with fans.
