Charity reckons there’s a real danger of Ross forming a bond with his secret daughter after helping to deliver her in this week’s episodes. Determined to take control of the situation, she warns him off.
The drama plays out amid baby Leyla’s homecoming following her dramatic entrance into the world. After Charity signs the official papers, Sarah and Jacob Sugden embark on an exciting new chapter as they’re permitted to take Leyla home.
Farrers Barn has been specially decorated to celebrate Leyla’s arrival and spirits are running high for everyone – at least at first…
“When Ross turns up for the gathering, the atmosphere between him and Charity could be cut with a knife,” teases our Emmerdale source.
“Charity wishes that Ross would simply stay away – although he has so many connections to the family that it doesn’t seem likely.”
Taking Ross to one side, Charity urges him not to get too attached to the baby. Ever since Ross stepped in to assist while Charity gave birth in the hospital lift, there’s been a risk of him starting to treat Leyla as his own.
When Moses invites Ross to be in a family photo, Charity is left on tenterhooks to see how he’ll respond.
“Ross takes notice of Charity’s concerns and points out that he’s not Leyla’s family,” continues our insider. “Of course, this isn’t true but most of the guests don’t know that!
“After snubbing the photo, Ross makes his excuses to leave and Charity dares to hope that he’s got the message.”
Last year, a DNA test confirmed that Ross is Leyla’s biological father. He and Charity had a secret hook-up, which derailed the pre-existing surrogacy plan between Charity, Jacob and Sarah.
Jacob and Sarah currently believe that Leyla was conceived through IVF treatment and is their biological child. But with the scheming Dr Todd now aware of the truth, it may only be a matter of time before everything changes…
