can’t corrie on Coronation Street and Emmerdale set to be rocked by schedule chaos for MONTHS despite new soap ‘power hour’
CORONATION Street and Emmerdale look set to be rocked by continuing schedule chaos – five months on from ITV’s new look plans.
The flagship soaps have been staple to ITV‘s output since their launch but have often had to take second place when it comes to live sporting coverage.
The sudden axing of episodes often leaves fans furious – and it looks set to be continuing well into 2026.
The news of schedule chaos comes just five months after ITV re-positioned its soap content into a so-called ‘soap power hour’ which would see both soaps air back-to-back every weeknight.
It meant that both shows lost their crucial sixth episode among ongoing cuts at ITV.
However, bosses promised it meant plenty of action from both the Dales and the Cobbles every weeknight.
But with the World Cup only a few weeks away, both soaps are set to face constant upheaval.
Matches from the games will take priority slots which could mean the soaps are forced out of their usual slots altogether.
It is understood to have caused a headache backstage as the soaps scramble to work out when episodes can be aired.

Last month, many episodes ended up being broadcast on the untraditional day of Sunday after a mid-week episode was dropped in favour of sporting coverage.
However, with World Cup matches also set to air on Sundays, this option looks set to be unlikely.
ITV are you to confirm their soap schedulling for the weeks when the global football tournamemnt takes place.
The schedulling disarray looks set to leave fans moaning and groaning at the lack of consistency for the programmes despite the shiny new schedule only being introduced five months ago.
Despite the chaos, both Coronation Street and Emmerdale have seen a rise in their viewing figures – largely understood to be due to the release of early 6am streaming on ITVX and YouTube.
In January of this year, both soaps reported a cool 65 million viewers combined, 10 million more than their previous highest month – with the ratings likely boosted by the history-making crossover Corriedale and the events that followed in each soap.

Emmerdale leads the charge at 8pm followed by Coronation Street at 8:30p
