Dr Todd (Caroline Harker) may very well live to regret crossing Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), who has a long history of taking no prisoners when it comes to her enemies.

Hotten General doctor Todd, as viewers know, has made Jacob Sugden’s (Joe-Warren Plant) life a living hell since he started working full-time at the hospital last year.

From making him second guess his every move to going out of her way to put him under serious amounts of stress, Jacob’s so-called mentor has chipped away at his confidence at every opportunity, leaving him a shell of his former self.

The bullying was so overwhelming that Jacob felt he had little choice but to report Todd to HR, filing a complaint, much to the senior doctor’s dismay.

In a bid to get him to drop the complaint, Todd claimed that countless patients could die in the years to come if she were to lose her job as a result of his report but Jacob remained adamant that she needed to be held to account for her behaviour.

Ruthless Todd spied an opportunity to get what she wanted after she stumbled upon the shocking truth of baby Leyla’s true parentage.

The tot, who Charity gave birth to last week, was thought to be Jacob and Sarah’s (Katie Hill) biological child but it turns out that Charity had slept with Ross Barton (Michael Parr) around the time of the embryo transfer, which means that the child is actually Charity and Ross’.

In a bid to get Jacob to drop his complaint, Todd confronted Charity, whose life she had saved hours earlier, and suggested that she get Jacob to back down, implying she will spill the truth of baby Leyla’s parentage if she doesn’t get what she wants.

The scales well and truly fell from Charity’s eyes given that just moments earlier she had asked Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) to pick up a thank you card for the doctor, who she was grateful to.

In a bid to keep a lid on the big secret, Charity spoke to Jacob about the complaint he filed and urged him to withdraw it, claiming it was in his and Sarah’s best interests, suggesting it could jeopardise his career taking on someone of Todd’s calibre.

Jacob ultimately came to agree with Charity and thus withdrew the complaint, with Todd promising a fresh start for them both, though it was made clear to the viewer that his nightmare is just beginning.

In Monday’s (April 27) episode, Todd told Charity that they were ‘good’ now that she’s done what she asked, meaning the truth about baby Leyla won’t go any further.

Charity, however, was still racked with guilt for talking Jacob out of proceeding with his complaint given that he is being bullied by the doctor. She asked Todd to go easier on him in the future.

Todd claimed that she will be ‘mindful’ of how hard she pushes him moving forward, which was music to Charity’s ears but her expression darkened when an unsuspecting Chas (Lucy Pargeter) referred to Todd as a ‘hero’ and a ‘good soul’, which implies she hasn’t forgotten what the medical professional has done.

To make the situation even worse, Todd has no intention of fulfilling her promise to make things easier for Jacob as upcoming scenes will see her use Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) to further her vendetta with the medical student.

With Jacob clearly struggling and Todd on a mission to destroy him, will Charity feel she has no obligation but to act and take the dastardly doc down a peg or two? Will she prove instrumental in Todd’s downfall?
