Dr Todd uses baby Leyla against Jacob in unsettling Emmerdale spoiler video

Jacob Sugden (Joe-Warren Plant) is left unsettled in Emmerdale next week after crossing paths with Dr Todd (Caroline Harker) when leaving the hospital with baby Leyla.

Todd had agreed to a fresh start after medical student Jacob withdrew a complaint he’d made against his so-called mentor, who has been bullying him for months.

The sinister doc, as viewers know, has made Jacob’s life a living hell since he started working full-time at the hospital, belittling him at every opportunity, making him second guess every decision he makes and leaving his self-confidence on the floor.

Fed up, he decided to take a stand last week, reporting Todd to HR. Todd, however, got the upper hand when she swooped in to rescue Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), who had just given birth to the baby she was carrying for Jacob and granddaughter Sarah (Katie Hill).

Todd used the situation to gaslight Jacob into thinking that people could die in the future if she was to lose her job as a result of the complaint he made.

But with Jacob refusing to back down, Todd finally got the leverage she needed, learning the truth about baby Leyla’s parentage – particularly the fact that Jacob isn’t the biological father.

Charity, as viewers will recall, slept with ex Ross Barton (Michael Parr) around the time the embryo transfer didn’t take and thus everyone assumed that the baby she fell pregnant with was a result of the transfer.

Determined to give Sarah the baby she’s always wanted, Charity kept shtum about the fact that it wasn’t actually Sarah and Jacob’s.

Armed with the knowledge that the baby isn’t Jacobs, Todd wasted little time in blackmailing Charity, urging her to get Jacob to withdraw his complaint – or else!

Charity had her work cut out for her in convincing Jacob to stop his report from going any further but ultimately the medical student listened to her advice, withdrawing the complaint.

Todd was relieved and promised a ‘fresh start’ when Jacob returns from paternity leave and upcoming scenes will see the two encounter one another in the hospital, as Jacob and Sarah take baby Leyla home.

Emmerdale spoilers follow for Friday’s (April 17) episode that is now available to view on ITVX. The episode in question will air on ITV1 on at 7:30pm.

Despite her penchant for mind games and manipulation, it turns out that Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) isn’t all that good at covering her tracks, having made quite the slip-up which could prove to be her downfall.

The abusive doctor, as viewers know, has made Jacob Sugden’s (Joe-Warren Plant) life a living hell at the hospital, undermining him at every given opportunity, pitting him against his colleagues and accusing him of not making enough effort, despite the fact he’s working every hour imaginable, supporting his wife and preparing for fatherhood.

The pressure she repeatedly puts him under results in Jacob questioning his every move and walking on eggshells around his boss, having no idea how she will react to anything that he says or asks.

In a bid to get some time away from his so-called mentor, Jacob requested to swap shifts with Rich, doing the blood drive at the Hide. Todd, however, revealed that she would be overseeing the event, which left Jacob on edge.

On the morning of the event, Todd commented on how nice it was to see Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) happy with Chas dingle (Lucy Pargeter), making reference to his ex’s including Leyla (Roxy Shahidi) and ‘all that unpleasantness with Maya’, saying it’s ‘unsettling’ to discover someone’s not who you thought they were.

The comment left Jacob knocked for six. The medical student, as viewers will recall, was abused by high school teacher Maya when he was a teenager.

He attempted to find out what exactly Todd’s game was by bringing up Maya but she put him off, reminding him that they’re working. The situation escalated further when Todd suggested he take her blood and, given how she makes him doubt himself, Jacob questioned every move he made. Todd grimaced in pain when he attempted to take blood, which left him worried that he’d hurt her.

Later, he apologised for any pain he caused but as the discussion moved to Maya, he demanded answers in regards to her previous comment. Todd feigned shock when Jacob revealed that he was the child Maya had groomed, claiming she had no idea. Then she proceeded to cry, stating her shock that he would such a thing of her.

Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) overheard the conversation and intervened, revealing that Todd’s father had died overnight.

Jacob was apologetic but, unable to stop thinking about the situation, he spoke to Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker), who confirmed that she’d told former colleague Todd about his ordeal with Maya.

Jacob reeled.

Armed with the knowledge that Todd did know what he went through, he now has what he needs to take her down. The question is: will this nightmare finally be at an end? Or will devilish Todd manage to get the upper hand once more?
