Coronation Street Soap Scoop! Todd’s escape plan

Coronation Street and Emmerdale fans will be facing yet another disruption to their evening as neither soap will be on air tonight. The schedule shake-up is a result of ITV’s recent sports coverage, with the Women’s World Cup currently taking precedence on our screens.

Tonight’s European Qualifier match will see England playing against Spain at Wembley Stadium, starting at 6.30pm. Not only is the live soap broadcast impacted, but the episodes also won’t be available to stream on ITVX or YouTube.

Fortunately, fans won’t have to wait too long for their next dose of drama as both soaps will be back tomorrow (15 April). Upcoming episodes of Corrie will reveal the outcome of Theo Silverton’s vicious attack on his husband Todd Grimshaw.

This month’s episodes have seen Theo planning to make his escape to Belfast, after Todd’s loved ones discovered his ongoing abuse. Theo coerced Todd into moving with him, encouraging him to cut off all ties to Weatherfield.

However, when Carl Webster hinted at Theo’s involvement in Billy Mayhew’s death, Todd finally decided to take a stand.

Yesterday’s episode ended with a bloodied Todd collapsing on Sarah Platt’s doorstep, after Theo caught him trying to leave.

Tomorrow night will feature heartbreaking scenes as Todd reports Theo to the police for assault. He opens up about the months of abuse he suffered at the hands of his volatile husband.

Knowing his true colours have been exposed, Theo attempts to flee the cobbles to evade justice for his crimes. However, news spreads fast in Weatherfield, making it difficult for the villain to slip away into the night.

Theo has already been confirmed as one of five potential dead bodies that will be discovered this month. Will his story end in handcuffs or a body bag?

Coronation Street Soap Scoop! Gary’s shock Theo discovery

Soap fans may be confused that Coronation Street and Emmerdale aren’t on ITV1 and ITVX today. But don’t fret, as both shows will be back very soon.

Amid recent chaotic schedule changes due the sports fixtures and other reasons, tonight’s episodes are off-air due to the England v Uruguay international friendly game on ITV1, coverage of which begins at 7pm.

However, to make up for the loss the shows will instead air rare Sunday episodes this weekend, Emmerdale beginning at 7pm followed by Corrie at 7.30pm.

Events will take a potentially pivotal turn in Weatherfield in Sunday’s episode, with villain Theo set to be caught out by Gary over his abuse of Todd. As the scales fall from his eyes after Sarah points to what’s going on, Gary accompanies Todd into the flat, where Theo shouts abuse only to realise his mask has slipped.

Meanwhile, in the Dales Joe orders workmen to demolish everything in a Butlers Farm field, including Holly’s memorial, while Tracy hopes Cain will make it in time to say goodbye to his granddaughter before departing the village.

Elsewhere, both shows are set to air next Easter Sunday as well, which follows a week of chaotic schedule changes due to sports fixtures and Vera repeats. However, the following week things appear to be returning to normal schedule-wise.

Corrie and Emmerdale were given a shake-up earlier this year with the introduction of half-hour episodes as part of a “soap power hour” between 8pm and 9pm, five days a week.

ITV’s Managing Director of Media and Entertainment Kevin Lygo explained that the changes are “viewer-led”, with the broadcaster aiming to present the shows in the “most digestible way”.

“In a world where there is so much competition for viewers’ time and attention, and viewing habits continue to change, we believe this is the right amount of episodes that fans can fit into their viewing schedule, to keep up to date with the shows,” he added.
