EastEnders has announced that Ravi Gulati’s mental health storyline will reach its climax later this month, with devastating new scenes depicting a moment where he considers taking his own life.

Throughout the course of the year, Ravi has struggled to move forward following his role in the illegal drugs operation that had life-changing consequences for both Harry Mitchell and Kojo Asare.

Things worsened when, after being drugged by Harry and Nicola in an act of revenge, Ravi attacked his son Nugget and left him for dead. Priya realised the extent of her partner’s turmoil when she discovered his self-harm scars, and she encouraged him to make an appointment with the GP.

But over the next few weeks, viewers will see Ravi continue to struggle as he feels powerless, ultimately believing that he is unable to protect his family in the way he should.

Ravi will reach crisis point in upcoming episodes and will contemplate suicide, but in the aftermath his family are finally able to help him accept the help that he needs. EastEnders has been working with Samaritans to tell this part of Ravi’s story as accurately and sensitively as possible.

Lorna Fraser, head of media advisory service at Samaritans, added: “Storylines responsibly reflecting experiences of mental health and suicide can help tackle stigma and can encourage viewers who might be struggling to talk about how they are feeling.

“We’re proud to have supported EastEnders with covering Ravi’s self-harm and mental health crisis sensitively and are grateful for their efforts in making this as safe as possible. We hope it helps anyone watching to seek support if they need it.”

In next week’s episodes, Priya grows increasingly concerned about her partner’s mental state, especially when he fails to step in to defend his son when Nugget has a tense altercation with Will.

Priya opens up about her worries to Suki, who as a result offers to pay top dollar for Ravi to attend private therapy sessions – but it’s clear that Ravi is unhappy about the wider family having knowledge of his struggles.
