Coronation Street star James Cartwright has hinted the ‘game’s up’ for Theo Silverton as he’s set to leave Todd Grimshaw with ‘no choice’ in upcoming scenes.

The actor joined the ITV soap in March 2024 as the new character, who quickly took a shine to Todd, played by Gareth Pierce. After some interfering from Todd’s late aunt, Julie Carp, the pair soon struck up a relationship which didn’t come without its problems as it was revealed Theo was married, to Daniel, with two teenage children.

Theo’s family caused many problems for the new relationship, but as things developed, it was revealed that the builder wasn’t quite as innocent as he tried to seem as he turned to controlling Todd, with his behaviour since turning towards both physical and mental abuse of his partner.

But it was last week, after Theo’s birthday saw the abuser berating Todd for embarrassing him after the undertaker’s card denied at the end of an expensive meal at the Bistro, that the builder a knife and pointed it towards Todd, who hit back: “You going stab me? Are you? Well go on, do it. You think I care anymore? You think I wanna carry on? Do it. Put me out of my misery, do it!”

The following day, after Theo spent the night in his van, the pair seemingly called time on their romance but as those who have been following the long-running show, it all seems to be another part of Theo’s plan to control Todd, as he’s been seen tracking his whereabouts.

Spoilers for this week have already revealed that Theo will slip some drugs into Todd’s drink and now new spoilers for next week’s Corrie, having sabotaged Todd’s marathon preparation, Theo joins Sarah Platt, James Bailey, Gemma and Chesney Winter-Brown at the tram stop and tells them that he knocked on Todd’s door but there was no reply and he must have set off already.

In the flat, Todd wakes up groggy and confused and he’s horrified to realise he’s missed the marathon. Later, as Theo returns to the street with his medal, an embarrassed Todd hides from his friends but Theo persuades him to let him in. As Todd despairs at how he’s let everybody down, Theo pulls him in for a hug. Will Todd succumb to Theo once more?

Later, Theo informs Todd that he has a surprise planned for him. Calling at the undertakers dressed to the nines, Theo leads a blindfolded Todd into the register office where Gary and Maria Windass wait. Producing two wedding rings, Theo explains to Todd that they never cancelled their wedding so can still go ahead. How will a shell shocked Todd react?

Explaining the reason for Theo’s plan, James shared: “It’s to give him no choice. Like a wolf in sheep’s clothing, or maybe a Trojan horse is a better analogy. Essentially he’s presenting it as this romantic grand gesture, but in springing it on him, he’s making sure that he doesn’t have a choice. He’s absolutely painting him into a corner. Another reason he’s springing it on him is so nobody else can torpedo the whole thing and talk Todd out of it.

“For Theo the quicker it’s done, the less can be said, it’s almost too late if they’re already married. He knows he isn’t popular, he knows Summer’s onto him, he knows George and Christina are onto him, he knows Sarah is a bit suspicious and he doesn’t want anybody to get the opportunity to offer some clarity. So the quicker he rushes it through, the better.”

While it’s not clear if the wedding goes ahead, the following day, Todd’s left with a banging headache following the events of the day before. But Theo’s unimpressed and heads out for a run and while he’s gone, George Shuttleworth calls for a cuppa. Soon, Theo returns and, assuming that Todd is in the bathroom, shouts abusive remarks through the door. When Todd arrives with some teabags and George emerges from the bathroom, Theo’s quietly horrified. How will George react?

Speaking about Theo being caught by George, James said: “Yeah the game’s up, isn’t it? This could be the beginning of the end, the toothpaste out the tube. Theo’s mask has slipped, somebody else has seen it, and he’ll never be able to undo that. The damage is really catastrophic for Theo’s reputation.

“His public perception is really damaged so from here on in, it’s going to be a real uphill battle to try and get George back on side. He’s seen that side of Theo, he may have suspected it was there, but now he’s had it confirmed. “
