Leon Brown is unlikely to return for season 21 of Sister Wives, according to Mykelti Brown.
In a recent appearance on The Sarah Fraser Show, Mykelti addressed speculation about her sibling’s future on the TLC series and said,
“I don’t think you’ll see Leon do [‘Sister Wives’].”
She added that any possible return would more likely happen in a separate project rather than the long-running family reality show.
Sister Wives season 20 wrapped in January and largely focused on Kody Brown reconnecting with Christine Brown Woolley, Janelle Brown, and Meri Brown in their hometowns.
The season documented apologies, difficult conversations, and attempts at closure after the dissolution of Kody’s plural marriages.
As Sister Wives looks ahead to a potential season 21, attention has turned to which members of the Brown family may continue filming.
Leon, Meri Brown’s only child, has been largely absent from Sister Wives in recent years. Aside from a brief appearance during season 19 at Garrison Brown’s funeral, Leon has chosen to remain off-camera.
Leon publicly came out as transgender in 2022 and has since maintained a more private presence.
Sister Wives: Mykelti Brown explains why Leon would not film season 21
Mykelti’s comments offered the clearest indication yet about Leon’s stance on returning to Sister Wives.
She explained that the show’s history and tone play a role in that decision, saying,
“I think that if Leon was going to [film] it would have to be a completely separate show. There’s just so much, like, negative angst and hard crap around ‘Sister Wives.’ But if there was, like, a spinoff version of it, like, ‘The Brown Kids,’ hindsight or after the fact or whatever, for sure I think Leon would come back. But Leon wouldn’t come back on ‘Sister Wives.’”
Sister Wives has chronicled more than a decade of family changes, including marriages, separations, relocations, and conflicts among the adults and their children.
In recent seasons, the show has centered heavily on the fractures between Kody Brown and his former wives, as well as shifting relationships among siblings.
Mykelti indicated that if Sister Wives is renewed, viewers may still see some of the Brown children. She said,
“You might see me here and there. You might see Ysabel.”
She also noted that Janelle Brown’s daughter, Madison Brown Brush, could continue appearing because she lives next door to her mother.
Participation among Kody Brown’s adult children has varied. In earlier seasons of Sister Wives, many of the children were central to storylines about education, relationships, and life transitions. As they have grown older, several have chosen to step back from regular filming.
Kody Brown shares 18 children across his four marriages. With Meri Brown, he welcomed Leon in 1995.
With Janelle Brown, he has Logan Brown, Madison Brown Brush, Hunter Brown, the late Garrison Brown, Gabriel Brown, and Savannah Brown.
With Christine Brown Woolley, he shares Aspyn Brown, Mykelti Brown, Paedon Brown, Gwendlyn Brown, Ysabel Brown, and Truely Brown.
After legally marrying Robyn Brown, Kody adopted her three children from a previous marriage — Dayton Brown, Aurora Brown, and Breanna Brown — and they later welcomed Solomon Brown and Ariella Brown.
Sister Wives has also documented tension following the separations, with some siblings acknowledging strained relationships.
Leon’s limited involvement aligns with a broader pattern in which adult children determine their own level of participation.
In the comments section of the interview clip, viewers reacted positively to the idea of a separate series centered on the next generation.
One commenter wrote, “I vote spin off !”
Another added, “There should be a spin off like with 19 kids and counting.”
A viewer noted, “Would love to see a spin off with more of the children. Not interested in Kody or Robyn. I love Janelle, Christine and Meri. Christines husband is cool also.”
Mykelti’s remarks suggest that a spinoff format might create a different environment from Sister Wives, one that Leon would consider.
For now, Sister Wives remains focused on the aftermath of the family’s restructuring.
Based on Mykelti Brown’s statements, Leon Brown is unlikely to return for season 21 under the current format of Sister Wives.
