Emmerdale’s latest Dr Todd update is bad news for Jacob

Jacob Sugden received more bad news on Emmerdale as his storyline with Dr Caitlin Todd gathered pace. Following the complete breakdown of their professional relationship earlier this week, Jacob was placed in a spot of further bother.

The beloved character has been under pressure from his ruthless and often cruel boss, who has shown him intermittent support in his studies to be a doctor. Jacob, however, has made several errors in his training.

The latest lapse in judgment involved Todd’s father, who is in hospital while suffering with late-stage dementia. After noticing that he was in cardiac arrest, Jacob revived him despite the fact that he had a Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order on his file.

Jacob managed to save his life, but Todd was furious with him for ignoring the directive. In a fit of rage, she remarked that Jacob would fail all his training and never be a doctor, before ordering him to leave. A frantic Jacob later struck Cain Dingle with his car in a hit-and-run incident.

Tonight’s episode of the ITV soap began with Jacob speaking with Kerry Pollard, who herself was struggling with her husband, Eric.

After Kerry supported Jacob in his marriage to Sarah, she let him know that she had overheard Todd speaking harshly to him the previous day. Jacob told her to stay out of it, but a repeat scenario in his latest shift compelled Kerry to take action.

She confronted Todd over the manner in which she spoke to Jacob, though the doctor tried avoiding the subject by saying there was a “misunderstanding”. Kerry wasn’t taking any prisoners, however, and said Todd had “met [her] match” if she wanted a “fight”.

Kerry explained how much pressure Jacob was under, and said that Todd was the “problem” rather than the job itself. She called the doctor a “bully”, though Todd retorted by listing Jacob’s “failings”.

Todd informed Jacob of her run-in with Kerry, though he stressed that none of her sentiments had come from him. Todd, under the guise of supporting her students, sent Jacob home, but it was clear that she had an ulterior motive.

Todd met with Manpreet Sharma at the Woolpack, and discovered details of Jacob’s past situation with Maya Stepney. With Jacob later chastising Kerry for getting involved, Todd finds herself in a position of strength.
