Coronation Street’s Steve McDonald has had a rather tumultuous romantic history on the cobbles – but in reality, actor Simon Gregson is blissfully loved-up with his wife.

Simon made his debut on the ITV soap as Steve back in 1989, arriving on the cobbles alongside the rest of the McDonald family, mum Liz (Beverley Callard), dad Jim (Charles Lawson) and twin brother Andy (Nicholas Cochrane).

Since then, Steve has become a soap icon and has been involved in numerous major storylines during his tenure on the show. Particularly at present, as Jim was recently killed off-screen, with his funeral taking place this week.

Steve’s love affairs have frequently been the talk of the town and a hot topic among viewers. The character has walked down the aisle seven times with five different women.

However, actor Simon Gregson’s personal love life couldn’t be more dissimilar from his character’s. Off-screen, he is smitten with his wife Emma Gleave, reports the Daily Star.

Emma is also an actress and has had a stint on Hollyoaks before running a cleaning company. Simon and Emma first crossed paths in 2010 when his co-star Beverley Callard invited Emma as a guest to the Coronation Street Christmas party.

Clearly besotted, Simon proposed just six weeks into their relationship. He told the Mirror in 2014: “I was sat in the bath and she was in the bedroom and I asked her, I just knew I wanted to be with her.

He is loved-up away from the soap

“She was so beautiful and we laughed all the time. She brought a lot more laughter into my life and proper friendship, someone you could rely on.”

In November 2010, the duo exchanged vows at St Bartholomew’s church in Wilmslow, Cheshire – with several Coronation Street stars present to celebrate the joyous occasion.

Among the guests were Jack P Shepherd, who portrays David Platt, Jane Danson, who plays Leanne Battersby, Chris Bisson, who played Vik, Alan Halsall, who plays Tyrone and Michelle Keegan, who portrayed Tina McIntyre, along with family and friends.

After their nuptials, they welcomed three children, Alfie, Harry and Henry. Emma previously shared insights about life with the Corrie actor during his stint on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here in 2021.

She revealed to Mirror: “Nobody knows but Simon is a poet. He’s always writing, he keeps books at the end of the bed so when he can’t sleep, he’ll have a dream or he’ll have a thought and will write it down.

“His poetry is brilliant, he’s a really good poet. He’s also writing a children’s book. He started during lockdown and was also doing it whilst he was isolating before he went on I’m A Celebrity.”
