SUMMER SPELLMAN’S DEPARTURE CONFIRMED: A FATAL TWIST IN THE MUR*DER MYSTERY! 😱⚖️
Coronation Street has set up an exit storyline for Summer Spellman amid the ITV soap’s ongoing murder mystery surrounding the killing of Theo Silverton, who was found dead after Carla and Lisa’s wedding.
Summer left the cobbles in 2024 to follow her dream of studying in the US, and she landed a temporary transfer to a Boston university. She spent several months there before returning home to support Paul Foreman, who was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.
In scenes set to air on Thursday (14 May), Summer breaks some exciting news, revealing that she has been offered a place at an American university. Todd insists that she must accept the offer, saying it will do her some good to start afresh.
“It looks like Summer could be heading back to the States soon,” said our Corrie insider. “And who could blame her? She’s had a hugely tough few months, with Billy’s death and helping Todd escape Theo.”
Relocating might not prove so easy, however, as Summer is one of the six suspects – alongside Todd, George, Christina, Danielle and Gary – in Theo’s murder. With an investigation taking place, the police may not allow her to leave the country.
“But as the police investigation into Theo’s murder rattles on, could Summer have an ulterior motive for wanting to move to the other side of the world?” teased our Weatherfield insider regarding the developments.
Summer’s motive for a possible murder is clear, as she discovered that Theo killed Billy. With his abuse of Todd also coming to light, did the weight of trauma push Summer to murder? And is moving to the States her way of escaping?
Speaking about the suspects, James Cartwright, who played Theo, said: “I know exactly who’s done it. He’s basically upset everybody on the street. It could be Summer. I killed her dad – that’s motivation!
“You’ve got George, because Todd’s like a son to him. You’ve seen George punch me already! You’ve got Christina – [she’s] a lunatic. It could be Todd, because he’s just had enough.”
Coronation Street fans are worried that Summer Spellman might be written out of the show, with Theo Silverton being the potential cause.
Theo (played by James Cartwright) was introduced earlier this year as Todd Grimshaw’s (Gareth Pierce) new romantic interest, and it wasn’t long before the chemistry between them was palpable. However, Theo’s true colours soon began to show.
Over the past few months, Theo has been manipulating and abusing Todd in an attempt to control every aspect of his life. Initially, Theo’s abuse was primarily psychological.
However, things escalated to physical abuse, including a disturbing incident where Theo forced Todd to eat a kebab and another shocking moment when he smashed Todd’s face into a mirror.
Moreover, just a few days ago, Theo drove Todd miles away and left him to walk home in freezing temperatures without a coat. This week, after Theo challenged Todd to prove his love for him, Todd proposed marriage – a proposal which Theo accepted, reports the Daily Star.
Todd’s family and friends were thrilled about the engagement, including his stepdaughter Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby). However, his friend and former partner Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) began to sense something was amiss.
In Thursday’s episode (January 1), Billy and Summer visited Todd and Theo’s flat to discuss their wedding plans, with Summer expressing her desire to be Theo’s bridesmaid.
However, when Summer accidentally spilled a cuppa on the carpet, a panicked Todd quickly ushered her and Billy out of the room, leaving him to clean up the mess under Theo’s watchful eye. Feeling humiliated by Summer’s bridesmaid remark, Theo lashed out at Todd, launching a vicious attack while he was down on the floor.
Now, with Billy’s departure rumoured to air in the coming weeks – and fans speculating that Theo might be his undoing – there are growing concerns among viewers that Summer could be the one facing a shocking demise instead.
On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one user speculated: “What if Summer gets caught up in between then and Theo and Todd and Theo accidentally murders her.” Another agreed: “That could happen.” A third added: “I do think something will happen to her as well as Billy tbh.” One distressed fan wrote: “That would be so sad.”
