Coronation Street Soap Scoop! Will’s major turning point

Maggie Driscoll will be cornered on Coronation Street as she faces the threat of blackmail. With the family in turmoil following the revelations about Will’s abuse at the hands of Megan Walsh, who attempts to gain leverage over Maggie?

The Driscolls have had it rough over the past few months, with Will being groomed by his athletics coach, Megan. Though he hasn’t seen himself as a victim, the whole family has been worried about his safety.

After the inappropriate relationship became common knowledge, Ben called Will’s mother Melanie, who promptly arrived in Weatherfield and demanded why the teenager wasn’t safeguarded. Furthermore, Melanie has attempted to relocate Will to Scotland.

Tonight’s episode of the ITV soap began with Ben and Melanie arguing over her proposed relocation plan. Ben accused his ex-wife of being self-centred, while Melanie stated that Will needed the move.

As Eva Price attempted to stop the shouting match, Ben revealed that Will had gotten Megan pregnant, and that she had subsequently had an abortion. This furthered Melanie’s belief that Will needed to move away, but Ben was resistant.

Eva had a private conversation with Melanie, and explained that Megan managed to dupe the entire town – as well as two schools – into keeping the relationship a secret. She urged her to not blame Ben over the matter, and to band around Will.

Ben returned to the Rovers, where Eva remarked about her discussion with Melanie. She thought that they had at least reached a middle ground of sorts, but this didn’t look to be the case.

Unbeknownst to the pair, Melanie went to the hospital to visit Maggie, who was recovering from her heart attack. After some initial pleasantries, Melanie’s agenda became clear as she brought up some Driscoll secrets.

She had knowledge that Maggie had killed her husband, Alan, by pushing him down the stairs, and threatened to tell Ben if she didn’t get what she wanted. Her demand for Maggie was simple – convince Ben to let Will move to Scotland.

Though Maggie is never one to shy away from a threat, the matriarch seemingly has no escape here. Will she follow through with Melanie’s demands, or will she feel it is time to tell her son about their past?

Coronation Street‘s Maggie Driscoll is accused of assaulting Megan Walsh next week, after the PE teacher reports her to the police for the crime. But was Maggie really angry enough to attack a pregnant woman?

With Ben Driscoll backing off from his son Will in the hope that he has enough sense to stay away from Megan, fearsome Maggie decides to take matters into her own hands.

She pays Megan a visit at her new flat – but little does she know, Will is already there. As Maggie warns Megan off her grandson, their confrontation escalates…

“Maggie is a woman of action – she feels the law moves at a very slow pace, and has rules that she does not have to play by,” begins Pauline McLynn, who plays Maggie.

“We’ll see a splendidly devious side of Maggie. No one knows exactly where Megan has gone to hide, and Maggie finds out in a very underhanded way, like a mini dark web for herself.

“She goes to confront her because nothing else is working. By accident or otherwise, as is the way of Maggie’s life, there is a physical fight. She’s not above getting her hands dirty.”

It’s not long before Lisa Swain arrives at the pub to deliver the shocking news that Megan has filed a police report against Maggie for assault – which Maggie outright denies.

“Maggie dismisses it as nonsense – a waste of everyone’s time to be complaining about this,” reveals Pauline. “A little bit of rough and tumble – things escalated a little, let’s get on with it.

“Denying it hasn’t worked, so she then goes, ‘Look, it could have happened to anyone! She escalated it, not me!’ She’s not a woman who backs down easily.”

Once Lisa has sternly grilled her, Maggie then makes the risky choice to pay Megan another visit to have it out with her nemesis once and for all.

“People would be disappointed if we didn’t see her having another go, having not had any satisfaction from the first go of running the woman out of town!” laughs Pauline.

“She’ll just keep going until it happens – that’s if Megan doesn’t disappear first…”
