Coronation Street fans said they were ‘dying’ as they got another ‘first’ in the long-running show following Lisa and Carla Connor-Swain’s wedding day.

For those who follow the ITV soap, the day the beloved couple finally tied the knot was a long time coming. It followed a turbulent time that included the return of Lisa’s ex-wife, Becky Swain, shortly after Lisa and Carla got engaged and moved into their first home, No.6 Coronation Street.

After Becky nearly tore the pair apart, Lisa and Carla were reunited, and with the latter was seen excitedly booking her and Lisa’s big day, which then took place during Thursday’s (April 23) episode of Corrie.

There was almost a hitch, as at first, the nuptials appeared to be off due to a flood, caused by Carl Webster, at the Chariot Square Hotel. But after some words of encouragement from Ryan Connor, Lisa formed a plan.

After convincing a disappointed Carla to ditch her duvet day, they headed to the hotel, and upon their arrival, Lisa surprised her wife-to-be by revealing that their wedding was going ahead, with Lisa’s daughter, Betsy, Carla’s nephew, Ryan, and her father-figure, Roy Cropper, as their witnesses.

Once pronounced as wives, there was another surprise waiting as Sally Metcalfe activated the Underworld security alarm, forcing Carla to head into work, despite getting married, but upon her entry, everyone was waiting, having come together for a wedding reception, which even took Lisa by surprise, and the newlyweds were able to celebrate.

Days on from them tying the knot, which made Corrie history as it was the first time two women had successfully married in Weatherfield, and there was a dose of excitement for Corrie fans as they heard Underworld factory boss Carla called by her new name for the first time.

Heading into the Rovers, Fiz Dobbs was gushing over the big day, saying: “Isn’t it nice to see Mrs Connor all happy and love,” to which Sally Metcalfe replied: “Yeah, and who would have guessed it would be another woman?” Fiz then asked Sally about her daughter, Sophie, who fans will recall almost tied the knot with Sian Powers a few years ago.

The pair were then heard asking landlord Ben Driscoll for six bottles of red and six bottles of white wine. When Ben jokingly asked if it was for them, Sally and Fiz laughed before the latter replied: “No, it’s for Carla and Lisa’s wedding over the road. We’re running out, aren’t we, Sal?” Sally then replied: “Mrs Connor-Swain has trusted us with her credit card!”
