Emmerdale’s Jacob fights back and takes Dr Todd down a peg – but a twist follows

Emmerdale spoilers follow for Tuesday’s (April 21) episode that is now available to view on ITVX. The episode in question will air on ITV1 on at 7:30pm.

Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) was left reeling in Emmerdale to learn that Jacob Sugden (Joe-Warren Plant) had reported her to HR as he revealed exactly what he thought of how she’d been treating him.

The so-called mentor has made poor Jacob’s life a living hell, gaslighting and manipulating him at every turn, making him doubt his decision-making skills, which has had a significant impact on his mental health.

Todd has humiliated him, played him off against his colleagues and put him under a serious amount of stress by giving him unfeasible amounts of work, with little to no time to complete, which led to her subsequently accusing him of not making enough of an effort.

Medical student Jacob, as viewers know, is set to become a dad, with wife Sarah’s (Katie Hill) gran Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) having agreed to be their surrogate, but he hasn’t been able to get excited about such a thing due to Todd’s treatment of him.

Refusing to be bullied any longer, Jacob reported the abuse to HR earlier this week, filling them in on just how Todd has been treating him. He didn’t hold back, revealing how the doctor makes twisted references to the abuse he suffered from Maya Stepney (Louisa Clein) whenever she can.

Todd, meanwhile, witnessed Jacob going into the HR meeting and lingered in the hallway, feigning concern when he made a swift exit following a call from Sarah, who notified him that Charity was giving birth in the lift of the hospital.

With emotions running high, Jacob told Todd exactly what he thought of her, revealing that he reported her to HR – and that he won’t put up with her bullying any longer.

‘I’m not scared of you!’, he said, bravely, as Todd urged him to proceed with caution, making a thinly veiled threat about his career should he carry on down this path.

Charity, meanwhile, delivered the baby while trapped in the lift but Ross Barton (Michael Parr) was left concerned when he discovered that she was bleeding, reiterating over intercom the need for the doors to be opened at once so that Charity could receive the medical attention she needs.

Jacob and Sarah were devastated when the doors were prized open and Charity looked in a bad way.

Jacob set off in search of a doctor – but with said doctor unavailable, Todd swooped into action, rushing Charity into surgery.

The question is: will she be okay? And how will Jacob feel about Todd being the one to conduct Charity’s operation?

As this week ended, we saw Todd escalating her behaviour towards her medical student. She’s gone from calling out his errors at the hospital to tormenting him, gaslighting him and bullying him

Jacob has done his best to avoid her but instances keep putting them together. Of course Todd has set this out as though it’s Jacob trying to be around her, as if he’s blurred the line between working relationship and personal relationship.

Todd has manipulated Manpreet Sharma and possibly Vanessa Woodfield too into think Jacob is being inappropriate and has a crush. Fans know, as does Jacob, that Dr Todd is the issue, and she has it in for Jacob.Things are about to take a turn as Todd continues her torment towards him, and he’s left trying to stop people thinking the situation is something that it isn’t. More than that, he’s frustrated over her treatment of him and the humiliation that often follows – but now we know something that happens to Todd as Jacob makes a decision.

Spoilers for the next episode and beyond have now revealed Jacob finally fights back against his mean boss – and he takes her to HR! Fans will see Jacob struggling to deal with Todd’s torment, and he feels like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders.

With her now living in the village, he feels there’s no escape from her. He’s also been called as a witness at Bear Wolf’s murder trial and he’s finding it all a bit much.

Ross Barton sees Jacob and checks in with him, wanting to ensure he’s okay. Jacob opens up to him about Dr Todd bullying him, and so Ross advises that Jacob talks things out with her.

Jaob does so and asks for a word with Todd, but clearly things do not go well. The next thing that happens is Jacob has enough, and he decides to raise a formal complaint with her employers.

He has a meeting with HR secured at the hospital and he tells his colleague Rich, who can’t believe he is complaining about Todd. He warns Jacob it could wreck his career but he is undeterred.

As Jacob enters the room with the HR representative for the meeting, he has no idea Todd is watching, and she’s furious. Jacob tells the HR rep everything, about the bullying from Todd and how it has made him feel.

After the meeting ends, he’s confronted by Todd who demands to know what he’s doing. She tries to corner him and asks why he has met with HR, but Jacob can’t take it anymore. He finally stands up to her, in person, but what will he say and how will Todd take it?
