Coronation Street takes Theo Silverton and Todd Grimshaw’s story in a new direction tonight as George Shuttleworth opposes their reunion.
Theo has managed to conceal his abusive behaviour by charming Todd’s loved ones in recent months, but George and his partner Christina Boyd are finally noticing that something isn’t quite right.
In Tuesday’s episode, Theo announces that he and Todd are back together by paying him a visit at work and eagerly handing out coffees to everyone.
George is openly dismayed by the news. While he doesn’t know what went on behind closed doors, he’s well aware that Theo and Todd’s relationship had turned toxic by the time of their split.
During a moment alone with Todd, caring George suggests: “Don’t forget why you broke up in the first place. You admitted that you were in a bad place. You had been for a while.”
He adds: “I just don’t think that he was good for you, Todd. You lost your sparkle. You were a shell of yourself.”
Back at the flat, Todd reports back to Theo about George’s reservations.
Realising the importance of keeping George on side, Theo joins him and Christina for lunch at the Bistro, promising that everything will be different second time around.
While George appears to take Theo at his word, he privately confides in Christina about how he wasn’t fooled…
“I’m thinking we have to appear to be supportive,” George sighs. “If we take against Theo, it’s just going to push Todd away. He stormed off earlier when I brought it up.
“I think the best we can hope for is that Todd works it out for himself.”
With George keeping a close eye on the situation, could he play a role in Theo’s inevitable downfall?
