EastEnders has confirmed a harrowing new storyline for Nicola Mitchell and George Knight as Nicola’s pregnancy progresses. Late last year, the soap confirmed that Nicola was pregnant with George’s child following a brief romance.
Since then, the couple have decided that they will co-parent the child, and George has moved into her basement flat.
Sharing an announcement today, EastEnders confirmed that Nicola will give birth prematurely in scenes set to air next month.

Per a press release, the soap sought advice from Bliss, the premature baby charity, on the new storyline in order to present it as accurately and as sensitively as possible.
In upcoming scenes, Nicola will give birth prematurely while George supports her as they “navigate an emotionally challenging and unexpected turn in their co-parenting journey”.
The description reads: “In the coming weeks, Nicola must undergo an emergency caesarean due to complications with the birth, resulting in the early arrival of a baby girl.

“With the support of their family, Nicola and George must confront the realities of co‑parenting a premature baby, both in neonatal care and once they take their daughter home.”

Speaking about the emotional new scenes, EastEnders executive producer Ben Wadey said: “This storyline follows Nicola and George as they navigate the challenges and shared concerns of neonatal care with their premature baby, and the impact it has on them and their families.”
Opening up on assisting the soap, Annelies Hopkins, information and support manager at Bliss, said they hoped the storyline would shed light on what it means to have a baby prematurely.
She said: “As the UK’s leading charity representing babies born premature or sick, and their families, we were grateful to be consulted on this important EastEnders storyline, which shines a light on the unexpected, distressing and often traumatic experience of having a baby in neonatal care.”
