HEALTH SHOCK Coronation Street star rushed to hospital with ‘abnormal’ stomach pain and undergoes surgery
FORMER CORONATION Street star Millie Gibson has been rushed to hospital and undergone emergency surgery after experiencing ‘abnormal’ stomach pains.
The 21-year-old, who played Kelly Neelan on the cobbles between 2019 and 2022, took to social media to warn fans to ‘listen to their bodies’ as she shared an update from her hospital bed.

Posted to her Instagram Stories, Millie revealed that she was rushed to A and E with ‘abnormal’ stomach pains that turned out to be a rumbling appendix.
“Hi all, I don’t usually post things like this but I just thought it was important to share awareness.
“On Thursday afternoon I went to a&e with abnormal stomach pain not knowing what it was.
“The doctors diagnosed me with appendicitis later that evening and organised surgery for the morning.

She added: “I’ve never had a health scare like this and if it wasn’t for someone’s advice pushing me to go to a&e my appendix would have ruptured.
Signing off, the soap star urged fans to always ‘listen to your bodies’ with her having no symptoms prior of an appendicitis.
An Appendicitis is when the appendix gets inflamed and swells, causing intense pain in the abdomen region.
Thankfully the body can survive without the appendix, so removing it immediately to get rid of the pain is the usual course of treatment.
Millie’s health scare came just hours after she had completed a US press tour for the rebooted The Forsytes.
The former soap star plays Irene Heron in the reimagining of John Galsworthy’s classic saga for Channel 5 and PBS.
Pain in the abdomen area is the main indication that something is wrong with the appendix. It is usually sudden and severe.
The pain starts around the belly button and, as it worsens, will usually spread to the lower right-hand side of your body, where the sac is located.
Other symptoms include:
- feeling sick (nausea)
- being sick
- loss of appetite
- diarrhoea
- a high temperature (fever) and a flushed face
You should seek urgent medical advice if the pain gets worse and spreads across your abdomen, and should call 999 to get help.

She had joined her co-stars for a number of press events ahead of the second series launching this week.
It’s not the only high-profile role Millie has bagged since leaving Weatherfield behind.
Millie famously appeared alongside Ncuti Gatwa on Doctor Who, where she played his assistant Ruby Sunday for two years.
She bowed out after the 2024 Christmas Special where she was replaced by new sidekick Varada Sethu.
