Emotional Coronation Street fans have said they ‘can’t take it’ as Carla Connor and Lisa Swain’s latest scenes in the long-running show reminded them a sad goodbye is looming.

Those who follow the ITV soap were recently introduced to baby Connie after she was unexpectedly left on the doorstep ofthe couple’s home, No.6 Coronation Street, last month.

While detective sergeant Lisa went after the woman hurrying away, Carla took the baby inside, where she and Betsy Swain questioned who the little one could be. But when Carla found out that she was her niece, the daughter of her brother Rob Donovan and prison guard Mandy, Carla appeared uncomfortable.

After Lisa revealed that she had agreed they’ll look after her while Connie’s grandmother, Mandy’s mother, goes into hospital, she was left surprised by her partner’s reaction. Carla was adamant that Connie couldn’t stay and said that her grandmother couldn’t just leave her on the doorstep like she did.

It wasn’t until later that Carla shared how she was really feeling, telling her future wife about how she suffered a miscarriage in 2014 and that the loss came amid the exposure of her then-husband Peter Barlow’s affair and the murder of Tina McIntyre, at the hands of Rob, and she told how she felt her sibling had gotten what he had taken from her.

Despite a few sleepless nights and solving childcare, Carla has since settled into having Connie around, creating some domesticated scenes for the Underworld factory boss and her fiancee, with the pair set to tie the knot on April 23.

But, Corrie spoilers recently confirmed that ahead of their big day, Carla and Lisa will have to say goodbye to Connie. The week starts with Ryan Connor showing Carla around the hotel whilst they discuss wedding plans. But when Carla takes a call from the social worker, her face falls.

Soon, back at No.6, Carla and Lisa pack up Connie’s things and explain to Betsy that the social worker has been in touch and Connie will be returning to be looked after by her grandmother.

During Thursday’s (April 16) edition of Corrie, with a week to go until Carla and Lisa tie the knot, Connie was back on-screens and was seen hanging out with Roy Cropper, who recently moved into No.6 himself following a fire at his home and beloved business, Roy’s Rolls.

And the scenes got Corrie fans already thinking about Connie not being around. One said: “Connie is leaving next week. I actually can’t take it [crying face emojis].” Another commented: “As if they’re about to take this away from us [crying face emoji].” A third shared: “Can’t believe they’re taking this beautiful little girl away from Carla, look at how attached she is! #Corrie.”

A fellow fan replied: “That little girl has meant so much to them. It’s gonna be a tough watch.” Another viewer shared: “Look at how happily they look at grandad Roy holding Connie. That wee soul will we sorely missed by the Connor clan #swarla #corrie.” A fan added: “The way their faces light up when they look at Connie… They’re going to be absolutely heartbroken and they won’t be the only ones. At least there’s their wedding next week… that’ll mend everyone’s broken hearts. #Swarla #Corrie.”

Coronation Street fans were left in tears ‘like never before’ at the end of Wednesday night’s episode. The world’s longest-running TV soap has never shied away from airing emotional scenes, and the Weatherfield backstreet has seen more than its fair share of births, deaths and marriages over the course of its 65 year history.

For just over a year now, Carla Connors ‘s romance with DS Lisa Swain has enthralled, and they have become a a social media sensation known as Swarla, but their engagement was marred when Lisa’s wife Becky came ‘back from the dead’ earlier this year. When Lisa arrived on the scene, she revealed that her wife Becky, also a police officer, had been killed in the line of duty some years earlier but she got a shock a few months ago when it emerged that was all a corrupt police cover up centring on a crime gang, and Becky had been alive and well and living in Spain as part of a corrupt cover up.

Since making herself known, Becky has spent the last few months turning up unannounced at number six and bonding with their daughter Betsy once again, all the while trying to win her family back. In recent days, Becky has wormed herself in at number six, having persuaded Carla (Alison King) to let her live with them after claiming that there was a gang after her life. In the latest instalment of the Manchester-based serial, Lisa (Vicky Myers) found her not-dead wife drunk on the street, having helped herself to one of Carla’s good bottles of wine, prompting Lisa to help her back to the house as she stumbled over the threshold.

While all this was going on Carla was waiting over at the Chariot Square hotel where she had booked a table for lunch for herself and Lisa and was dismayed when she didn’t turn up. Later on, Becky had sobered up, showered and came downstairs in a bathrobe, where set about ordering a takeaway for herself, Lisa and their daughter Betsy when Carla arrived back to her own house and was distraught to see the family scene playing out.

Lisa explained: “She was a right mess, so I brought her back here, and then, well, then I saw your missed call. But, Carla, I tried to call you back.” When Carla noted that Becky had made a ‘remarkable recovery’, Becky said: “Always did, didn’t I, Lise?” but the factory boss raged: “Don’t do it! Don’t bang on about your shared past. We all know that you go way back, all right, right before I was even on the scene, but I’m sick of hearing about it. She always does it, Lisa. I want you to leave now!”

When nothing happened, a furious Carla said: ” It’s me that’s in the way. I’m gonna make it dead easy for you,” and stormed out. She did return later that evening, and poured herself a large glass of wine as she and Lisa spoke candidly about their whole situation. When Lisa pointed out that there are people out to kill Becky, Carla said: “That’s why I said it was OK for her to stay here, until she goes to Spain, but we don’t have actually a date for that, do we? And you’re not asking why because….. because she wants to get the band back together, Lisa!”

Launching into a state, Carla continued: “Why today did she choose to come and nick one of my bottles and get leathered, so leathered that you couldn’t possibly leave her? She did it deliberately! A blind man on a galloping horse can see that, Lisa!”

On the verge of tears, she added: “And do you know what really gets me now? Is all that time I spent patiently, silently listening while you worked through your grief, saying how much you missed her, how much she was the love of your life, and then… ..just when we finally had moved forward, and buried the past, up she pops, doesn’t she? Like a spiky-haired spectre at the feast!”

Fans will recall Carla’s long-running relationship with Peter Barlow, and over the Christmas period two years ago, the Underworld boss paid for his ticket abroad when she knew it was the “right thing to do,” to end it all, and she began thinking the same thing as she brought things to a close with Lisa through tears. Lisa begged Carla not to go, but she reasoned that the only reason Lisa believes everything Becky has to say is because she still loves her.

Just then Becky and Betsy arrived back at home. Carla said: “Here comes your ticket out of here.” Carla kissed Lisa goodbye and walked out, leaving the detective to collapse in floods of tears in her daughter’s arms. Lisa was not the only one crying, as fans of the soap couple took to social media in their droves as they praised the acting of soap legend Alison King, who has starred as Carla for nearly 20 years.

One wrote: “How dare you?! @itvcorrie How dare you make me cry over a fictional couple breaking up on TV?! I have NEVER, EVER cried over a couple like I have over #Swarla breaking up! Absolutely fantastic acting from both Ali & @VixMyers Think their performance made it way more emotional!”

Another said: “here comes your ticket out of here” was a 10/10 line and 10/10 delivery from Ali King. If Lisa did choose her old family she’d actually be booking a ticket to Spain (out of there) with them. Just 10/10!” and a third ERE COMES YOUR TICKET OUT OF HERE [heartbroken emoji].”

A fourth wrote: “If the breakup happened today, what fresh hell are we to be subjected to on Friday? I don’t think I can cope,” and a fifth said: “It honestly must have been so exhausting and intense to film those scenes for AK, VM and the camera crew.”
