Sunday’s series finale of Paramount Network’s Yellowstone (recapped here) tied up a barnful of loose ends. Dutton family patriarch John was laid to rest next to his beloved wife, Evelyn. Beth was
finally able to send loathed adopted brother Jamie to the train station. She and husband Rip started over at a new ranch while her father’s land was sold to the Confederated Tribes of Broken Rock.
Happy endings were also given out to Kayce, who was at last able to ditch his Livestock Commissioner badge, Ryan, who reunited with Abby, and Teeter, who relocated to Texas to learn to be a
horse trainer alongside Jimmy. Walker and Laramie headed for the Lone Star State as well, while Lloyd elected not to follow Beth and Rip to their new place. “If I can’t cowboy here” at the Yellowstone, the old-timer said, “I’d rather not do it at all.”
But, despite such a large number of resolutions, not all of our questions were answered — and some of them have been burning for so long, they’re dang near down to embers. Take a look below at the loose ends that we wanted to see tied up — maybe they’re being saved for the rumored offshoot starring Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser as Beth and Rip? — then hit the comments with the mysteries you feel were left unsolved.
Did Kayce’s Bomb Ever Blow Up?
Back in Season 2, when the Duttons and Dan Jenkins were at war with the Beck brothers, Kayce and the developer’s bodyguard snuck into their nemeses’ hangar and planted a bomb on the siblings’ plane. Aaand… nothing. Did it go off? Did Kayce return to the scene of the crime to retrieve it after the Becks were dispatched by other means? To this day, we don’t know.
What Ever Happened to Angela Blue Thunder?
In Season 5A, the legal eagle was hell-bent on seeing that Rainwater was kicked out of his seat of power and replaced by a leader who, in her estimation, would be a better warrior for their people. But in Season 5B, she wasn’t even mentioned. Heck, when TVLine asked Gil Birmingham how big a threat the conniver posed to his character in Season 5B, he jokingly played dumb, insisting, “I don’t know who this Angela is you speak of.”
Did Beth Forget the Threat She Made Against Jamie’s Son?
In the series finale, Beth made a big deal about the way that she kept her promises. But back in Season 5A, no sooner had she learned that Jamie had had a son than she’d vowed to take away the boy. “Next time you see him,” she hissed, “you can kiss him goodbye, ’cause he’s as good as gone.” Yet in Season 5B, she made neither a move to abduct the kid or even a mention that he existed. Guess we can assume that once John was murdered, she had bigger fish to skin?
Did Avery Ever Get Over Kayce?
When Yellowstone brought back Avery in Season 4 to confess her love for Kayce, we assumed that something, anything would come of it. Even Monica was worried about the looker that she nicknamed Ms. Pouty Lips and Tate described as “one hot tamale.” But once Avery’s crush assured her that nothing was going to happen between them — ever — she just sorta up and disappeared again. So was she just… filler?
Who Was Rip’s Old Girlfriend?
We’ll grant ya, this one may not quality as a loose end, because it was so recently dangled. But we were intrigued to hear that Rip had had another girlfriend way back in the years that he and Beth were apart. Could he actually have a kid of his own out there somewhere? Maybe that’s a question to which we’ll get an answer if and/or when Paramount Network’s reported Beth/Rip spinoff officially leaves the starting gate.
What Became of Poor Lug-Nut Boy?
Since the epic finale of Season 3, we’ve been dying to find out what happened to the kid who was poised to become collateral damage in the hit that Jamie’s father Garrett ordered on John. We know that his mom was shot along with the rancher, but what about the youngster he’d sent to look for lug nuts in the weeds? Can’t believe Taylor Sheridan didn’t have the character show up as a teenager at John’s funeral so that, when everyone else was placing roses on the casket, he could drop the lug nuts on its lid!
