Per Flix Patrol, Yellowstone ranks sixth on Peacock’s top 10 TV shows chart at the time of writing. The series jumped up three spots from last week, moving up a list topped by Love Island and featuring ahead of shows such as Chicago Fire and Law & Order: Organized Crime.

Yellowstone Became a Western Genre Game-Changer

Undoubtedly Sheridan’s most popular and successful series, Yellowstone became one of the most successful series around during its five-season run and made the Western genre popular again in Hollywood. The series chronicles Dutton family patriarch John Dutton, played by Academy Award-winning actor and Western specialist Kevin Costner. John, a sixth-generation homesteader and owner of the titular ranch, navigates his powerful yet complicated family while facing constant conflict surrounding his ranch’s borders. Costner stars alongside Kelly Reilly (Beth Dutton), Cole Hauser (Rip Wheeler) and Luke Grimes (Kayce Dutton).

After spawning well-received spinoffs such as 1883 and 1923, with the latter recently debuting on Netflix, Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe is expanding with further shows chronicling supporting characters in the franchise. One such spinoff is The Madison, a modern-day series chronicling the McIntosh family, based in Montana’s Madison River after originating from New York City. Award-winning actor Michelle Pfeiffer stars in the leading role, with Patrick J. Adams, Matthew Fox and Beau Garrett also featuring.

Furthermore, CBS is moving forward with a planned spinoff chronicling Kayce called Y: Marshals, which sees Grimes’ character joining an “elite group of U.S. Marshals.” Then there is the spinoff series, Dutton Ranch, which focuses on Rip and Beth following their marriage in Yellowstone and picks up events after the main show’s finale.
