After years of enticing viewers with its impeccable storyline set in the Wild West, Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone is in its last lag. With the release of the second half of season 5, fans will be bidding farewell to the original Dutton family. As heartbreaking as it is going to be to witness the end of the popular Paramount show, it is even more horrifying to think that, perhaps, Kevin Costner will not be returning as John Dutton.

After his alleged feud with showrunner Sheridan amid scheduling conflicts, Costner’s return is shrouded in mystery as the second half of season 5 is expected to begin filming soon. But Yellowstone fans aren’t far behind and claim that Costner will be returning to the show.

Yellowstone Fans Believe Kevin Costner Will Return For Season 5

Ever since the rumors of the alleged feud between Kevin Costner and Taylor Sheridan started making rounds (see Cinema Blend), fans of Yellowstone have been wondering whether Costner would even return as John Dutton for the show’s final season.

It has been over two years since the show last aired, and since then, many have been eagerly waiting for the second half of the fifth season to begin filming. Originally slated to release in 2022, the filming of the final episodes will be starting soon.

While there has been no news of Costner’s return to the show, fans recently seem to have found evidence that hints at Costner’s return. As per the Facebook page of Yellowstone Extras Casting, a notice was recently posted that asked for an extra to serve as a male double with the following physical attributes— 5’9”, 125-140 lbs, with brown hair. Another notice asked for certain extras for Men in suits, with secret service types/ex-military types, in the age range of 25-50.

While these details do not mean that Costner would return, they all point that these extras or secret service agents might have direct links with the Montana governor. Either he can be paid a visit by the Secret Service agents or the said scene, which takes place in a restaurant, might also bring Josh Lucas’s young John Dutton back.

As Yellowstone fans continue speculating, Costner recently remarked he would love to be back as John Dutton, which makes his return even more possible.

Kevin Costner Would Love to Return to Yellowstone

Kevin Costner and the Yellowstone production were apparently at odds with each other due to scheduling conflicts, as Sheridan revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. This, along with no news of Costner’s return, made fans believe that the actor had said goodbye to the show for good.

However, in a recent conversation with Entertainment Tonight, Costner remarked,

“I’ve made five seasons of it. I thought I was going to make seven (seasons), but right now we’re at five. So how it works out — I hope it does — but they’ve got a lot of different shows going on. Maybe this will circle back to me. If it does and I feel really comfortable with it, I’d love to do it.”

While he also added that he has no knowledge of how part two of season 5 is being worked out, Costner did show he was willing to return. His statement, along with the casting announcements, has fans convinced that the Oscar-winning legend would return as John Dutton again.

Meanwhile, Yellowstone Season 5: Part Two is expected to be released by November.
