Who Said THAT!‘Yellowstone’ Actor Josh Holloway Calls Out an Unexpected Plot Hole in the Show

There’s a good chance that when a Yellowstone fan hears the name Roarke Morris, it sends a shiver down their spine—kind of similar to how you feel when you see a snake. Which is why his death on the show was total poetic justice.

Played by Josh Holloway, Yellowstone fans know his character as the sharp-tongued villain that posed a threat to the Dutton family. But, if you remember the season 4 premiere, you know that Roarke met a swift end by way of a rattlesnake. To make it even better, it was thrown at him by none other than Rip Wheeler.

While it made for a jaw-dropping moment, Holloway is now calling into question just how believable that scene really was by pointing out a plot hole most viewers never even noticed.

Roarke’s death played out like any other classic Yellowstone power move: a snake in a cooler, a bite to the face, and a dramatic, yet quick death within seconds.

It definitely made for some great television, but Holloway couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow at how unrealistic it was.

In an interview with USA TODAY, the actor admitted that he flagged the too-quick death to show creator Taylor Sheridan before shooting. “I said, at least do the jugular, so we could at least say it was a direct shot.

We could say that. And he was like, ‘But it looks better here.’ And I was like, ‘But I wouldn’t die that fast!”

According to the National Institute of Health, while rare, after being bitten by a rattlesnake, fatalities usually occur hours following the bite without proper care. Turns out Holloway knew what he was talking about.

And, although Yellowstone has always been a show that thrives off larger-than-life scenarios, he made sure to point out that even a highly venomous snakebite usually takes longer than the few seconds his character had in the season 4 premiere.

Even with questionable timing, Holloway took the scene in stride. In the USA TODAY interview, he called his death scene one of his favorite jobs yet.

Though his character, Roarke Morris, exited the series in an unconventional way, Holloway’s take on the scene reminds fans that even in the wild world of Yellowstone, a little unrealistic plot hole can go a long way (and get people talking).
