The real-life boyfriend of Coronation Street‘s Rob Mallard was spotted on the cobbles this week, as he stepped in to serve some justice.
Modelling agent Matthew Martin made a cameo appearance as a police officer in Wednesday’s (February 26) episode, when Cassie Plummer’s fiendish scheme was finally revealed.
Viewers have seen Cassie (played by Claire Sweeney) quickly gaining and abusing Ken Barlow’s trust, after being hired as his temporary carer. Spiking his drinks with drugs, Cassie began using Ken’s credit card to order gifts for herself, and later convinced the pensioner he had forgotten about making the purchases.
This week, Ken finally became aware of Cassie’s actions and ordered her to leave. Alone in the house, he suffered a heart attack and was later found and rushed to hospital. The Barlows soon became aware of the deceit and Tracy wasted no time confronting Cassie.
However, their showdown was interrupted by two police officers – one of which was played by Martin – who arrested Cassie on suspicion of drugging with intent to harm.
Following the cameo, Martin shared some behind-the-scenes snaps of his character on Instagram. The pictures saw him grinning in his police costume, alongside boyfriend Mallard (who plays Ken’s son Daniel Osbourne).

Martin’s followers were delighted by his surprise appearance, with one calling the cameo “Bring your boyfriend to work day” in the comment section. Could more real-life partners be visiting Weatherfield soon?
