This article contains spoilers for tonight’s Coronation Street which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on ITVX.
Tonight’s special episode of Coronation Street gave viewers an insight into Kit Green’s (Jacob Roberts) teenage years, and finally answered the questions raised about his tense relationship with Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton).
In recent episodes, it became clear that Mick and Kit had a history, with both men clearly harbouring a shared secret.
Whatever it was they were hiding was certainly taking its toll on detective constable Kit — and tonight we found out exactly why.
A flashback to 2007 revealed that Mick and Kit were good friends, who got up to plenty of mischief, as teens do.
However, things escalated dramatically when a shopkeeper made derogatory comments about Kit’s birth mother, Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove), and he decided to get revenge.

With Mick’s help, he lit fireworks and pushed them through the letterbox of the store – unaware that there was someone inside.
Kit was left horrified when he suddenly heard screaming coming from inside, where the shopkeeper’s wife was trapped.
It wasn’t long before the shopkeeper arrived and immediately set his sights on Mick, giving Kit the opportunity to make a run for it.

When the police arrived, they arrested Mick and he ended up serving a custodial sentence for Kit’s crime.
It’s no wonder things are tense between them!
Kit’s crime could have changed his entire life, as he wouldn’t have been able to join the police force if the truth had come out – and Mick clearly knows this.
To make matters even more complicated, it transpired that Lou Michaelis (Farrel Hegarty) had cheated on Mick while he was in prison – with Kit!

When Kit wandered into Speed Daal and spotted the Lou and Mick enjoying a celebratory meal with son Brody (Ryan Mulvey), who had just been released from the STC, he stopped in his tracks.
Having overheard that Brody was 16, he began to put the pieces together about his time spent with Lou.
Add to that the look of horror on her face when she realised that Kit had seen them, and the evidence continued to mount.
