EastEnders has confirmed the end of Elaine and George Knight’s marriage only months after they tied the knot, as the couple split up on Thursday (June 12).
This week, Elaine (Harriet Thorpe) was left exhausted by George’s (Colin Salmon) constant lies involving his ex-wives. After finding out George had been helping Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) re-launch The Albert, she was convinced something had happened between the pair.
The Queen Vic landlady also discovered that George had visited his other ex-wife, Sabrina, on Christmas night, leaving her furious.
While in The Albert, Elaine enjoyed a drink with a handsome man called Stephen and they ended up sleeping together.
But when she came home later, George was desperate to apologise and make amends, and horrified Elaine realised that she was the only one who had cheated, reports Belfast Live.
As the Knights busily prepared for Kat (Jessie Wallace) and Alfie Moon’s (Shane Richie) wedding reception, Elaine told Linda (Kellie Bright) the truth about Stephen. Her daughter urged her to come clean to George, and Elaine eventually confessed to her husband that she had slept with another man.
In the latest episode, George was stunned by this bombshell and Elaine was left alone in the barrel store as he attempted to process his wife’s betrayal.
The drama in Walford escalated when Elaine refused to shoulder all the guilt for recent events. She confided that Stephen’s attention made her feel valued, and George’s deceit had shaken her self-belief.
Later on, despite Elaine’s proposal of a fresh start in Marbella, George declared it was too late – the rift between them was irreparable.
A poignant moment followed when Elaine presented him with the boxing gloves from his first championship win, a gift he found touching but still left The Vic with his possessions in tow, signalling an end to their marriage.
Yet, devotees of EastEnders are speculating that George had already decided to depart, pondering a reunion with Cindy, as the two find it tough to keep apart.
Their history traces back to Cindy marrying George under a new identity – Rose Knight – while in witness protection, only to desert him and their children in Spain after Lucy Beale’s demise in 2014.
An accidental encounter brought them both back to Walford in 2023. With Elaine no longer in the frame, could there be a spark re-ignited between George and Cindy now they’re reunited in Albert Square?
Fans are airing their thoughts on the saga. Someone voiced their frustration online: “If the end goal is to put George and Cindy together then why didn’t you do that ages ago? Why are we still being subjected to watch this nonsense?”.
A second chimed in: “It’s time to free Elaine! She deserves better than George. Let him be with Cindy; it’s obvious that’s what he really wants.”
A third expressed frustration, saying: “He just annoys me now, simping after Cindy after all the crap she’s done and treating him like dirt and her behaviour. Get a grip!”
One viewer predicted a plot twist: “A possible reunion for George and Cindy”, while another declared eagerly, “Please just end this relationship! ! Cindy needs to be with George, Elaine needs to find another man and they’ll all be happy in the end #EastEnders.”
Another viewer was adamant, encouraging, “George and Cindy need to reunite at this point”, and one more person shared similar views, commenting, “Elaine shouldn’t trust George. He’s just gonna go back to Cindy again!”
