Coronation Street is to set to air emotional scenes between Kevin Webster and Julie Carp, as their two cancer stories collide.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Kevin had been diagnosed with testicular cancer, leaving the whole Webster family shell-shocked. After undergoing an operation to remove one of his testicles, Kevin was told that the cancer was still present in his lymph nodes and he would need to start chemotherapy treatment.
Kevin’s illness has led to tensions within his marriage to Abi, with Corrie‘s producer Kate Brooks previously explaining: “We want to tell this really truthfully. We’ve been working closely with Macmillan to make sure that we tell the story right. Ultimately, it’s about Kevin and Abi’s relationship and testing that relationship.”
She added: “Abi is going through her own situation as she struggles with the aftermath of [Mason’s death]. She loves Kevin and he loves her, but temptation comes Abi’s way.”

Meanwhile, Julie’s recent return to the cobbles brought devastating news to the Grimshaws when she revealed her terminal sarcoma diagnosis. “It’s stage four. It’s spread to my liver and lungs. The chemo can slow it down, but it can’t cure it. If I’m lucky, I’ll see this summer,” she told her sister Eileen.
In upcoming episodes, Abi is set to support her husband during his chemotherapy session but is informed that Alfie is ill at nursery. As Abi leaves to attend to her son, Kevin becomes anxious on his own.

Julie finds an upset Kevin on the bench outside the hospital and suggests they get the tram home together. However, Abi also feels anxious when she can’t get hold of Kevin.
Realising he was with Julie and didn’t tell her, Abi becomes angry at Kevin. But will he stand up for himself?
Later in the week, Julie continues to stay positive for her loved ones, and persuades Eileen and George to join her for a day out on the East Lancashire railway. Overhearing her in the café, Nick and Toyah admire Julie’s zest for life.
