Coronation Street‘s Julia Goulding has expressed sadness over her co-star Paddy Bever leaving the show.
The actor, who plays Shona Platt in the ITV soap, addressed the recent news that Paddy has bowed out from his role as Max Turner.
Last month, it was revealed that Paddy had already filmed his final scenes as the troublesome teenager.
Show bosses confirmed that Paddy had chosen to leave Corrie of his own accord as he now wants to pursue other projects.
Speaking to and other media about the news, Julia admitted: “I’m devastated! I love Paddy so much. I mean, I could actually be his mother, it’s ridiculous.
“I think he’s got a bright future ahead of him. I would love to see him, at some point, maybe come back, but I don’t know. I don’t know where his life is going to take him. It’s really sad to lose him.”
Next week’s episodes see Shona and her husband David attend court to see Max receive his sentence over the Platt house fire. Shona feels mixed emotions, after previously encouraging her stepson to face the consequences of his crime.
Max set No.8 on fire earlier this month after being inspired by David’s jokey comments about how an insurance scam could solve their financial issues.
When Max faces the music in court, the judge takes into account the wider family circumstances surrounding his crime – but will any leniency be shown?
Meanwhile, Julia admitted that she’s also upset over Charlotte Jordan’s decision to leave her role as Rovers barmaid Daisy Midgeley.
She laughed: “Don’t even get me started on Charlie Jordan – I’m furious with her for leaving! All my mates are going.”
Charlotte, who has played Daisy for four years, recently said that the time was right for her to “start a new chapter and explore other opportunities”.
Meanwhile, Paddy said: “I’m eternally grateful for the chance to bring Max’s story to life and it’s been a great privilege to contribute to the legacy of such a well-loved and iconic show.
“This chapter has been unforgettable and while I look forward to what lies ahead, I will treasure these memories.”
