Coronation Street’s Jennie McAlpine, famed for her role as Fiz Dobbs, has left fans offering their sympathies after revealing some sad news.
The actress announced “with a heavy heart” that her beloved Manchester eatery Annies has shut its doors permanently.
The city centre gastropub, which Jennie and her partner Chris Farr have owned since 2012, was known for its hearty fare including Corrie-themed hot pots, steaks, and burgers.
Despite its popularity, Annies has faced financial struggles post-pandemic, with 2022 reports indicating debts of £537,000.
Fifth Floor Limited, the company behind Annies, had filed accounts showing it was £318,000 in debt as of 2024.
Taking to Instagram, Jennie shared: “It’s with a heavy heart that we’ve had to close the doors to Annies this week. We want to thank the amazing people, staff and customers who’ve been part of our Annies journey.”
She continued, expressing gratitude towards their clientele, adding: “Our whole team will miss all of our wonderful customers, who we have come to call friends.
“Thank you for the support you’ve given to us all over these years. With love and thanks, Chris and Jennie.”
The eatery was celebrated as Manchester’s sixth top spot on TripAdvisor and even nabbed a spot in the website’s Traveller’s Choice Awards Best of the Best Restaurants round-up, reports the Express.
To top it off, it claimed the People’s Choice Award for the city’s best tea room at the Manchester Tourism Awards.
Loyal fans were quick to offer their sympathy, with heartfelt messages pouring in. One shared: “So so sorry to hear this Chris & Jennie. It’s been a pleasure being your neighbours for so long. You will certainly be missed.”
