“I think Lou’s redeemable!” laughs Coronation Street‘s Farrel Hegarty as she sits down with us at Inside Soap to chat exclusively about her character. “She just needs to be taught a few lessons on the way.”
Unfortunately, viewers will be left wondering about Lou’s future as Farrel’s time on the Street is up, with her final scenes airing soon. Next week, Lou’s left helpless when Mick goes on a frightening rampage, and she’s stuck in custody – but what for?
As we prepare to wave goodbye to Lou, Farrel reflects on her time on the cobbles, and teases what’s next for her…
Hi Farrel! What’s been your favourite thing about playing Lou?
“Oh gosh, so much. She’s got a lot of layers – from the beginning, we saw she had a sense of humour, and she’s also probably not likeable. I wouldn’t want to live next door to her! Later on, we’ve seen a more vulnerable side to her and why she is the way she is.”

“It was really sad. On your last day on set, they give you a little round of applause. Julia [Goulding, aka Shona] is one of my best mates and she popped round the corner. You know when you see your mate and it just makes you upset? I saw her little face and I burst into tears!”
If Lou ever came back, what would be your dream storyline for her?
“I would love to see what she’s capable of without Mick. They were so dependent on each other, and it was so toxic. There’s a lot of joy and fun in her and also mischief. Obviously, it wouldn’t be strait-laced, would it? She’d go on a rampage!”

“I don’t know! I think Coronation Street is such an amazing platform, and I’ve had a couple of auditions, so we’ll see what comes out of it. You never know what’s around the corner!”
