Coronation Street fans think they know who really stole Brian Packham’s beloved book in recent scenes on the ITV soap, as teenager Hope Stape got the blame for the theft

The real thief who stole Brian Packham’s book on Coronation Street may have been rumbled by fans.

As Brian’s missing book sparked an uproar, Hope Stape was accused of being behind it. The troublesome youngster’s past crimes, including arson and harming her sister Ruby, are the reason she was under suspicion.

After all, the theft came about after Hope had heard Brian and Rita Tanner making comments about her, just after Jodie Ramsey manipulated her into thinking the pair were saying things behind her back. We saw a mystery figure sneak into the shop and steal the rare book, but did not see who it was.

On Monday, Hope faced accusations but she insisted she was innocent and did not take the book. With Brian realising his possession had been taken, he commented it wasn’t cheap.

Trying to track it down, he soon asked Hope whether she had intentionally or non-intentionally taken it. Hope immediately denied this, but Brian was not convinced.

He wasn’t the only one though, as Ruby soon made it clear that while she backed her sibling to Brian’s face, she too thought Hope had hidden it. Asking her what she planned to do with it, she questioned if she was going to sell it online.

Once again Hope insisted she did not take the book, and that it had to be someone else. So is Hope telling the truth, and did someone else commit the crime?

Of course Hope could be covering her tracks, taking her revenge on Brian. But what if it was someone else who took it, and Hope has simply been set up?

Fans are already guessing who else may have taken the book, suggesting Hope may be innocent after all. The top theory is that Jodie or Lily stole the book for payback, after the way Brian treated Lily in the shop.

Taking to social media with their theories, one fans said as their suggestion: “Jodie.” Another posted: “Poor dear Hope, people think so badly of her, so what she set fires about 1,000 years ago. Move on. What about the aspiring footballer across the way who binned your papers? (Or Jodie).”

A third fan said: “Anyone else think Hope didn’t steal the book? My money is on Lily after what happened in the shop.” A fourth wrote of the mystery figure: “That’s not Hope’s legs. That’s Lily,” as another said: “Or Jodie.”

A further post read: “That was either Lilly or Jodie stealing the book.” Another posted: “I think it was Jodie,” as one more fan said: “Lily.”
