Just when things were looking relatively calm and settled around the Horton house, Days of our Lives brought back one of its most complicated and calculating villainesses, Gwen Rizczech. And the timing is absolutely perfect for the intriguing character’s return.
About That Necklace
Having Gwen show up wearing the late Alice Horton’s diamond necklace and flaunting it in Julie’s (Susan Seaforth Hayes) face was an unexpected twist. Who could have predicted that the ex-Mrs. Von Leuschner would have been the one to get her hands on the stolen trinket? And who knows what she’ll want to return the priceless family heirloom to its rightful owner, Julie?
Actress Emily O’Brien has always played Gwen with devious charm, so inserting her into the necklace caper is perfect. As a woman who’s always been out for number one and willing to do anything to get what she wants, she’s sure to spice up the twisted tale and turn it in a whole new direction.

Hello, Xander
Although inserting Gwen into the necklace storyline may have been totally unexpected, having her arrive in town right after Xander (Paul Telfer) and Sarah’s (Linsey Godfrey) break-up was anything but. The writing was on the wall for Xander’s ex-fiancé to slither back into his life now that he’s alone and at an all-time low. Plus, with no positive guidance from either Sarah or Maggie (Suzanne Rogers), Xander’s sure to fall easy prey to Gwen and succumb to her charms.
Reviving Xander and Gwen’s relationship now works for a few reasons. First of all, Xander is not a man to be alone for long, and Gwen feeds his ego like no other. As a bonus, she doesn’t care about his criminal misdeeds. There are no expectations for him to walk the straight-and-narrow, so he can scheme to his heart’s content and totally be himself. Plus, Sarah’s not going to take well to seeing her man with another woman, particularly the likes of Gwen. It’s bound to add more fuel to Xander and Sarah’s fiery breakup.

Lastly, Leo
Leo’s (Greg Rikaart) life has been proceeding smoothly since he paired up with Javi (Al Calderon). Well, except for maybe baby Tesoro’s arrival in their lives. But as a guy with not many or any friends, he’s missed Gwen.
However, the former besties have yet to resolve the complicated triangle they were in with Dimitri (Peter Porte) and how it destroyed their friendship. But since they were both dumped by him in the end, perhaps they can talk things out, commiserate, and finally make amends. The timing, after all, is perfect for the pair to get back on track.
