Anybody Else See That?
Remember a while back when Hope went from fantasizing about Thomas to getting involved with the hunk? Soon after, she threw herself (however briefly) into the idea of hooking up with Finn, followed by her out of nowhere romance with Carter. As many of us wondered if something was wrong with Hope — akin to when a brain tumor had Thomas macking on a mannequin — the writers indicated the beauty was “following her heart” in much the same way Brooke had.
This week, Hope walked in to find Carter looking guilty as sin after he swooned over Daphne. Sorry, Daphne Rose. Rather than be jealous, Hope wandered over to sniff the French beauty’s neck… and then look rather seductively over Daphne’s shoulder toward Carter, who seemed almost entranced by the scene unfolding before him. Just like that, message boards and reddit threads began speculating as to whether a threesome was in the works.
While many seemed very opposed to the idea, some were all-in. As redditor Lynnk0919 said, “I’m ready to ship Hope/Daphne/Carter as a throuple. Let’s go polyamory!” They even dubbed the potential trio HoDaRter.
Bring It On!
Frankly, I’m all in on the idea for several reasons. First, I’m a big believer that soaps need to be telling more modern stories if they want to survive — let alone thrive — for years to come. Forrester Creations might be the only sector of the fashion industry to never have employed a gay designer.
But from a storytelling standpoint, I love the idea of Steffy’s plan being derailed by that most uncontrollable of factors, the human heart. Imagine if the armed-and-scented missile Steffy aimed at Carter and Hope misfired in spectacular fashion, resulting in Daphne joining the company-stealing duo to form an even more powerful triumvirate!
Frankly, I always thought that if Steffy was going to use seduction to come between Carter and Hope, she should have send a hunky man onto the battlefield. What better way to disillusion Carter than by having him see Hope in the arms of another man? With the warnings of Ridge and Steffy echoing in his head, Carter might find himself questioning whether Hope really had been using him all along. Combine that with his guilty conscience, and he’d be begging the Forrester family to take back the company that’s rightfully theirs.
Finn, You Are the Father!
As absolutely ridiculous and hole-filled as the story is, I kinda loved the reveal that Finn is Luna’s father. The emotions were big and sloppy and, as usual with this show, the underlying musical cues perfection. I’m always surprised at how well they play specific beats. The scene where Finn calmly spoke as he approached Poppy, only to then unleash his fury? Chills. Seriously, chills.
I’d love to know if this was the plan all along, although I highly doubt it. (Bold & Beautiful often feels like a show that sets down one path only to wander into a field because there’s a pretty flower over there. Reminds me a lot of Dug the Dog from the movie Up, who was forever being distracted by the presence of squirrels.
Months ago, when hints first were dropped about the possibility of Finn being the dad, a whole lot of people freaked out. They suggested that the show wouldn’t go that route, because it smacked of incest… clearly forgetting that this show once had Bridget fall for her father/brother/stepsibling Ridge!
I’m really hoping that this reveal will rush us down the path of someone — anyone — finding out where Luna’s been stashed. Why? Because that story makes no sense, is ruining Bill and needs to end, pronto.
Here We Go Again
Friday’s episode ended with Finn preparing to tell Steffy everything… which I am 100 percent sure he won’t do. Not yet, anyway. In fact, not doing so will no doubt come back to bite him in the butt. When it does, you can be 100 percent sure that Steffy will rebound into Liam’s arms.
How do I know? Well, this show loves nothing more than to drop anvils as opposed to clues. When out of nowhere, Bill asked if Liam was bothered by Finn and Steffy spending time together — you know, as married folks will — he replied, “I’ll always love Steffy, but on the other hand, I’m happy she’s happy.” Translation: When the you-know-what hits the fan, Liam will happily dash back in to pick up the pieces. Again.
Poppy’s Options
When first introduced, we were told (repeatedly) that when Bill met Poppy, she was basically a dancing beacon of joy and light. It wasn’t until recently that the show decided to rewrite that history to make her sound like a child-abusing, drug-taking, responsibility-shirking tramp. But here’s the thing: If she really was that creature — and she knew that Finn’s paternity would destroy her family — why didn’t she have an abortion? Surely that would have been in keeping with the way they’re rewriting her past.
I mean, the obvious answer is that had she done that, we wouldn’t be telling this story. But it would be nice if we at least got a scene in which Poppy admitted she considered it but ultimately could not go through with it because she’d already fallen in love with her unborn child.
Random Thoughts
• It amuses me that in all of Luna’s talks with Bill, she never really mentioned feeling bad about having kidnapped Steffy. Only when they were about to reveal that Steffy is Luna’s stepmom did the topic come up. As the Church Lady would say on Saturday Night Live, “How convenient!”
• Good lord, Finn actually locked his office door… and then checked it to make sure it was locked before running the second paternity test. And even insisted that Poppy lock the door before he confronted her with the truth. I mean, when’s the last time anyone on this show locked a door?
• Anybody else feel as if this week, the writers decided to take the “coup” storyline in a different direction? Even as Daphne was offering up her neck for any and all takers, there was an awful lot of talk about Carter’s conscience.
• Why does it seem as if Brooke isn’t being consulted on anything? And shouldn’t she, not Carter, be sitting behind the big desk? She is, after all, CEO. Meanwhile, I really need for her to stop begging Ridge to take her back, especially given that she knows he and Taylor are living together. Come on, girl, have some self respect. You deserve better.
• When Hope said that her relationship with Carter was “kismet,” I cringed. Please, please, please don’t let this be the new oft-repeated “destiny.”
