Soap Opera Critics Review Hits and Misses: Top 10 Moments of the Week of June 16-20

10. MISS: Nobody’s definitively spelling out Johnny’s guilt (DAYS). Johnny (Carson Boatman) is alluding to having shot his father. And Rachel (Alice Halsey) is having nightmares about it. But it feels like the show needs to treat us like we’re children here. We need to see it to believe it. Thankfully, EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) mentioned the memory stick from Rafe’s (Galen Gering) spy cam. Hopefully, we’ll finally get to witness what’s in that footage.

9. HIT: Monday showdowns (GH). The Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) and Lulu (Alexa Havins) confrontation was pretty epic, considering it included a Quartermaine hitting a Spencer. The way Lulu condescendingly told Brook Lynn she did nothing wrong when it came to her, we wouldn’t have held back either.

Then there was Jason (Steve Burton) and Drew (Cameron Mathison). They both got some good digs in. Jason called Drew poison. Drew asked Jason the last time he checked on Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) and Jake (Hudson West).

On Monday, even Chase (Josh Swickard) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) got into it. These intense conversations were much needed and much enjoyed.

8. MISS: Ashley rejects Derek’s proposal (BTG). Even though we’re giving this Ashley (Jen Jacob) and Derek (Ben Gavin) development a miss, it’s probably the best thing that happened to these two. We’re still unsure why Derek would even propose when he and Ashley had so many problems living together. It’s clear they weren’t ready. But the part we’re a little scared about is how this could open Ashley up to Andre (Sean Freeman). We’re all about Andre and Dani (Karla Mosley).

7. HIT: Steve’s 40th anniversary flashback frenzy (DAYS). The celebration of Stephen Nichols and his character Steve Johnson came complete with a bunch of flashbacks. Forty years since debuting a character is no joke. And even better, Steve decided not to retire from Black Patch. Yay!

6. MISS: Taylor and Eric rehash an old topic (B&B). It’s been two months since the Forrester Creations fashion show that featured Eric (John McCook) engineering the Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) showstopper moment. But this week, Taylor (Rebecca Budig) brought it up to Eric as if it just happened. What? It just felt like the world had moved on from that fashion show, and now so should Taylor.

5. HIT: Friday’s episode (BTG). Usually, we’re all about BTG’s fierce and formidable female cast. But on Friday, the men got much of the focus, and we loved it. There was finally movement in the Martin mystery, and it seems like it is going to connect a lot of people on the canvas. Yes, it’s going to be that messy.

At the hospital, Doug confronted Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli) about the money-laundering mess they are in, and Ted and Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix) finally got to have a lengthy talk.

We couldn’t get enough of the episode’s players, including Clifton Davis (Vernon), Keith D. Robinson (Ted), Brandon Claybon (Martin), Mike Manning (Smitty), Jibre Hordges (Jacob), Jon Lindstrom (Joey), Jason Graham (Doug), Darryl W. Handy (Marcel), Malachi Malik (Elon), and Jason Vendryes (Kenneth). Soap Opera Critics Review Hits and Misses: Top 10 Moments June 9-13

4. MISS: Victor knows the identity of Dumas while nobody else does (Y&R). First, we have to say this is very in character. However, it would have been nice if Victor (Eric Braeden) had been on the same level playing field as the others.

3. HIT: Nick returns and immediately starts needling Ridge (B&B). Nick Marone (Jack Wagner) and his swagger strolled right into Ridge’s CEO office and went to work on dismantling Ridge’s hold on Brooke. Then, when Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) arrived, he needled him relentlessly. It was fun and we loved it. Ridge doesn’t know what to think.

2. MISS: Sidwell bribed the judge to award custody to Michael (GH). We were so impressed with the fact that the judge broke down Willow’s (Katelyn MacMullen) bad choices, which led to her awarding custody of the kids to Michael (Rory Gibson). But now we know Sidwell made it happen, and it takes away from that epic moment. And that makes us sad.

1. HIT: Cane and Lily (Y&R). The slow-burn of this reveal challenged us at times. But Cane revealing himself to Lily first before anybody else was a wise choice. And Lily freaking out about it and not believing him was in character. But Cane was steadfast, and he urged her to show more patience. That he would tell her everything after he showed himself to the Genoa City crowd gathered. Now, we can’t wait to see more Christel Khalil and Billy Flynn scenes.

Honorable Mentions

B&B

HIT: The Los Angeles wildfires were mentioned. Love that B&B did this. It’s something that shouldn’t be forgotten.

BTG

MISS: Madison and Chelsea’s relationship is happening beyond quickly. Madison (Kenjah) and Chelsea (RhonniRose Mantilla) are a beautiful couple with so much potential. They are a power couple in the making. But how did they already hit the meet the grandpa stage?

DAYS

MISS: They are messing with Eric and Nicole — off screen. Holly (Ashley Puzemis) told Aaron (Louis Tomeo) that Eric (Greg Vaughan) and Nicole (Arianne Zucker) were both at the graduation and sitting on opposite sides of the event. What? Why? When? We need more intel and, more importantly, we need Eric to talk about this to someone in his family before he leaves. Beyond that, why are they messing with Eric and Nicole? They’re supposed to be happy in Paris, raising Jude. What’s the purpose?

GH

MISS: Sasha continues to insist that she raises the baby on her own. Everybody knows that she had Michael’s baby. Michael wants to be a part of Daisy’s life. And Sasha is already living with the Quartermaines, who are Michael’s family (one side of it anyway). This doesn’t compute.

Y&R

HIT: The Nice sets, especially the train. Kudos to the behind-the-scenes crew responsible for the Nice look and feel. We especially loved the train set.
