Port Charles newcomer Gio Palmieri may have been raised by a single mom back in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn — but General Hospital viewers aren’t so sure that Lois Cerullo’s cousin was the teen’s biological mom. For months, viewers have been speculating that the young violinist is the child Brook Lynn secretly gave up for adoption… and his portrayer, Giovanni Mazza, teased in an interview with TooFab that some pretty important information about his alter ego is about to be revealed!
“I think a lot of fans have been anticipating something coming up,” he said of his character’s backstory. “There is something very big coming up that the fans would be very, very excited for.”
Mazza noted that since he joined the show in May, his storyline has been focused on Gio building relationships with other folks in town. “But now, we’re really going to explore who my character, Gio, is,” he teased.
The reigning theory among GH viewers is that Dante fathered the child Brook Lynn had as a teenager, whom she and Lois secretly gave to cousin Camila to raise. As it turns out, the soap’s audience isn’t the only ones speculating about who Gio’s real parents are. “What’s really fun is when my family asks what I think,” Mazza confessed. “One of my cousins just texted me the other day. He’s like, ‘Is so-and-so your parents?’ And I’m like, ‘What do you think? I want to know what you think first.’ Then I’ll know what I could play into.” corrienews.info
Getting that feedback helps Mazza envision unwritten possibilities in his scripts. “It sort of helps me in a way to know what the fan speculation is, to sort of play around with different relationships,” he explained, confessing that even his mother has her theory. “There was one person that my mom thought I might be related to. And I was like, ‘Hmm, well, I can play around with that, see what the audience thinks of that.’
“It’s all just to sort of create a really fun experience for the audience,” he added.
