EastEnders icon Adam Woodyatt has revealed the real reason he moved into a motorhome after splitting from his wife.
Adam, 56, and Beverley Sharp split in 2019, over 20 years after the pair walked down the aisle. It meant Adam, who has starred as Ian Beale since 1985, was left living in a campervan “in a field in Devon”.
The actor has initially purchased the motorhome to tour the UK in a play. But after his shock split was announced, he made the decision to move into the van temporarily.
Speaking on Big Breakfast in 2022 Adam was asked about his decision to buy a motorhome. He explained: “I’ve not just purchased it, I live in it.”
Radio presenter Rebecca Shekleton asked: “How do you find it?” To which Adam joked: “It’s usually where I left it parked.”

He added: “I love it, it wouldn’t suit everyone but where I am in my life at the moment, it’s perfect for me. I’ve got all my stuff for cooking, I’ve got my house on wheels.”
Adam said one downside of going on tour with his play was that he was actually leaving his motorhome behind, meaning he had to pack a suitcase. He said: “Normally, my motorhome is my suitcase, I’ve got everything with me.”

Speaking to The Sun in 2021, Adam said he had originally purchased the motorhome so he didn’t have to worry about accommodation while on tour. He said: “I’ve got a motorhome ready for the tour so I won’t have to worry about staying in hotels or anything like that.
“But I’ve taken advantage of it and I’m currently in a field in Devon.”
Adam and Beverley announced they had called time on their marriage in 2021, confirming they had separated the year before. The former couple have grown-up children Jessica and Samuel together.
According to OK!, Adam bought his motorhome for £93,000. The 2.3-meter-wide vehicle was said to boast underfloor heating, a cosy living area, and a double-bed.
Adam will be appearing on Saturday Kitchen at 9.45am today on BBC One. Appearing alongside Diane Parish, Emma Barton and Jacqueline Jossa he will be discussing the 40th anniversary of EastEnders.
