Yolande Trueman (Angela Wynter) continues to shut off partner Patrick (Rudolph Walker) in EastEnders next week, leading to a heartbreaking mistake.

Viewers of the BBC soap witnessed some of the most harrowing scenes ever earlier in the year, when church-leader Pastor Clayton (Howard Saddler) sexually

assaulted Yolande in a store room at the community centre.

After finding the courage to report his crime to the police, they revealed that there little that they could do due to a lack of evidence.

Luckily, a second survivor of his abuse came forward, with the CPS charging him. When a third woman came forward, Clayton charged his way into Yolande’s home and demanded she drop the case against him.

Later that night, the police told her that he had taken his own life to avoid any repercussions.

Since then, Yolande has tried to rebuild her life and reconnect with her Christian faith – something which she abandoned following the sexual assault.

She was stunned to learn that his funeral would take place on Christmas Eve, meaning that the so called ‘celebration of life’ would loom large over her own family’s day together.

After she decided not to attend the Christmas light switch-on in the Square, Patrick was left deeply concerned for her.

In upcoming scenes, his worries continue when Yolande shuts him and Denise Fox (Diane Parish) off.

Later, she faces off with Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) and Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) in the laundrette, before heading home and being struck down with immense guilt when Patrick informs her that she’s forgotten a key event.

It’s the 20th anniversary of his son Paul’s (Gary Beadle) death.

Long-term fans will remember that Paul was entwined in a criminal underworld with gangsters Andy Hunter (Michael Higgs) and Johnny Allen (Billy Murray).

After tipping the police off about Andy’s drug dealing, he was driven out of Walford by one of his hit men.

Johnny then found his body, and a few weeks later, threw Andy off a motorway bridge.

After learning the truth, Patrick felt closure knowing that his son’s killer had been served justice.

Yolande knows she’s made a huge mistake by forgetting the anniversary, and makes amends with her life partner.

Realising that she can’t allow Clayton’s abuse to control her life any longer, she heads to the church with the other survivors on the day of his burial.

Having rediscovered her faith, she returns to the community centre to volunteer.
