EastEnders star Balvinder Sopal has confirmed the upcoming 40th anniversary episode will raise the stakes with its
interactive element.
Appearing on tonight’s (October 30) The One Show with co-star Navin Chowdhry, Sopal admitted there are still details
about the episode that haven’t been shared with the cast, but she knows there’s plenty of drama afoot.
“We can promise that it’s going to be exciting and it’s going to be high stakes and lots of drama, emotional drama,” the Suki Panesar star said. “But we are just as much in the dark as the public.”
She continued: “So we’re, sort of, finding out as we go along. It’s EastEnders and we’re not going to let you down, are we?”
First announced in September this year, the milestone event will give fans control over one of the storylines. Viewers will be able to have a say in what happens, though details surrounding the special are being kept under wraps.
Scheduled to air to mark the soap’s 40th anniversary in February 2025, the episode promises to “change Albert Square, and the lives of those who live in it, forever”, outgoing producer Chris Clenshaw teased earlier this year.
“This time, as well as going live, we are adding an extra twist and for the very first time in the history of the show, and as a gift to the viewers, we are giving the audience the power to have their say in choosing the outcome of one of our storylines,” he said.
Clenshaw will step down from his role as EastEnders‘ executive producer following the show’s 40th anniversary, with current Channel 4 commissioning executive Ben Wadey set to take over.
