EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy has revealed Sonia Fowler’s “worst nightmare” in her ongoing trial drama.
Viewers will know that Sonia is currently on trial for the murder of Debbie, Reiss Colwell’s wife, who was actually murdered by Reiss.
Asked recently if Sonia could cope with being sent down for a crime she didn’t commit, Cassidy revealed her character’s biggest fears.
“No, I don’t think she could,” she said. “I also don’t think she could cope with giving birth in prison and looking after her baby in prison or having the baby and then the child being taken away from her. It would be her worst nightmare.”
Among all the drama, Reiss has also been holding Sonia’s sister Bianca captive in a soundproofed lock-up after Bianca found out the truth about who murdered Debbie.
Speaking about her sister Bianca’s absence at the trial, Cassidy said Sonia is upset that Bianca hasn’t been there to support her through the ordeal.
Cassidy said: “Sonia is so upset that Bianca hasn’t turned up to court. She keeps saying, ‘Where’s my sister? Where’s my sister?’ She’s really hurt. Sonia’s daughter isn’t there and her mum isn’t there, so she was counting on her sister to be there for her and she isn’t.
“Sonia really needed that family support, and although Martin, Jack and Kat are there, it’s not the same as having her sister there. Sonia really wanted Bianca to be around.”
On whether she thinks Reiss is the person behind Debbie’s murder, Cassidy said: “Sonia believes Reiss is a kind and lovely man who makes the odd mistake and tells the odd lie, but only for her benefit as far as she sees it. Sonia doesn’t believe it could be possible that Reiss would let her be in prison for months for something he did.”
