EastEndersstar Louisa Lytton has revealed a secret change to Ruby Allen and Martin Fowler’s story, which took place during her previous stint on the show.
Martin and Ruby tied the knot back in 2020, in a surprise ceremony away from the Square. However, their marriage was short-lived as Ruby was sent to prison in 2021, after being framed by Jean Slater for growing cannabis.
Last year, Ruby made a shocking return to Walford, revealing that she had given birth to her and Martin’s son while behind bars. Despite their rocky reunion, Ruby and Martin quickly grew close again, and decided to give their relationship another chance.
In an interview with Inside Soap, Lytton addressed whether another wedding could be on the cards for Martin and Ruby. She revealed that plans for their first wedding were changed due to Covid-19 restrictions at the time.
“With their first wedding there was talk of going on location to film it. Then lockdown happened and it ended up taking place off screen,” said Lytton. “I was done out of a soap wedding – I must be due one!”
The star went on to reveal that Ruby “does love” Martin but that their relationship is “mainly to give [their son] Roman some stability”.
“Settling back in Albert Square with Martin and their little boy Roman is probably not where she thought she’s be, but she is willing to do whatever it takes to have the family unit she never had.”
Lytton also discussed what’s in store for her character in 2025, teasing a business opportunity with newcomer Nicola Mitchell.
“I hope she crosses paths with Nicola Mitchell – I feel she’s the type of woman that Ruby’s late mum would’ve been,” she said. “I imagine they’d get on well – Nicola’s running Ruby’s old club now. Maybe she could work for her? I’d love to see that happening!”
