EastEnders‘ Jean Slater will clash with partner Harvey Monroe in upcoming scenes, as her worrying
scam storyline continues.
It was confirmed last week that Jean is set to become the victim of a financial scam, after she received a
letter telling her that she had thousands of pounds in her pension that she wasn’t aware of.
She has already shared her personal information with the company and has been convinced that investing her money will give her a good return later on.
In scenes that will air next week, a drunk Kathy Beale arrives at the cafe and gets into a row with Jean over Harvey, following Kathy and Harvey’s surprise kiss last month while he and Jean had fallen out.
Jean is irritated, and orders Kathy to stay out of her relationship with Harvey.
Later on, Jean shares some financial news with Martin Fowler and she encourages him to continue his fight with Ruby Allen over their son.
However, Jean is soon arguing with Harvey about her finances after he wonders whether the financial advisors she’s been speaking to are really legitimate.
Jean, feeling frustrated, then bans Harvey from getting involved with her financial decisions.
Later, Kathy starts to ask Jean similar questions, and Jean is soon involved in another fight.
Kathy urges Jean to ensure that the people advising her are genuine, but will Jean take Kathy and Harvey’s advice?
Jean’s storyline will air during the BBC’s Scam Safe Week, which begins on November 23 and will feature a range of special programming.
“EastEnders will focus an upcoming storyline on scams as Walford’s Jean Slater is duped by fraudsters staging an elaborate investment con,” the BBC has said of Jean’s plot.
“The storyline will raise awareness of how scammers use plausible narratives to convince people to part with personal information and money.”
