EastEnders has finally confirmed the identity of Cindy Beale’s attacker, revealing that Kathy Beale was the person behind the Christmas Day ordeal.
Cindy has been trying to find out the attacker’s identity since the festive period, eventually realising they had stolen her locket on the night.
In last night’s cliffhanger, Cindy stole a gun from Phil and went to the family home where she pointed a gun at an unidentified person holding the locket.
Kicking things off tonight, we found out it was Ian standing at the end of the barrel holding her locket. “I knew it was you,” she said to Ian, who said: “It wasn’t me honest, it wasn’t me, you’ve got to hear me out.”
As the confrontation continued, Cindy pointed the gun at Ian, who told her it was Peter who attacked her. When Kathy walked in, she told Cindy: “It wasn’t Ian, he didn’t try to kill you, it was me.”
Kathy told Cindy she saw her walking past the house the night of the attack, saying: “I came out, I grabbed that shovel, it was me.”
Cindy threatened to tell the police about Kathy and when she pointed the gun at Ian, he rushed for it and it went off in the struggle. Cindy shot Ian in the arm before running out of the house.
Meanwhile in the episode, after the wedding, Bianca went home and killer Reiss crept inside. After confronting him in a fight, Reiss sped off in his car.
Later, Ian told Cindy he would pay her to keep quiet about his mum, telling Cindy to think carefully about it or he would make her life “a living hell”.
As Reiss sped around the corner, Cindy pushed Ian in front of the car, saying “goodbye Ian”. Reiss’ car swerved around Ian and crashed into the Vic, causing a huge explosion inside the pub when some gas cans caught fire. Ian and George ran from the explosion as the episode ended on a cliffhanger.
Elsewhere, Linda found a series of notes written by Phil and enlisted Grant and Nigel in a desperate bid to find him, as he had taken the gun from Cindy.
