EastEnders favourite Kathy Beale will receive a fake alibi in the ongoing Cindy Beale storyline.
Cindy was attacked by an unknown assailant on Christmas Day (December 25), after her various secrets were exposed in The Queen Vic.
The admissions led to the breakdown of several of Cindy’s relationships, so she arranged to leave Walford in a taxi, just moments before she was hit on the head with a shovel and left in a critical condition.
In scenes set to air on Monday, December 30 and Tuesday, December 31, the police ask Kathy more questions about Cindy’s attack, but her friend Harvey quickly steps in to give her a fake alibi.
Martin overhears and accuses Kathy of having an affair with Harvey, which they both strongly deny. However, could these rumours get back to Harvey’s partner Jean?
Elsewhere, the soap is currently playing out a loneliness storyline involving Phil Mitchell, who has begun to feel abandoned by his family.
Over Christmas, Phil reluctantly agreed to go to Teddy’s house for lunch, but he soon decided to leave after seeing him and Sharon looking cosy at the table.
After an awkward Christmas dinner, Phil got an unexpected surprise when he bumped into his old friend Nigel Bates, who had fallen upon hard times.
In upcoming scenes, Nigel encourages Phil to go to The Vic to see Sharon and introduce him to the new arm of the Mitchell family. Things don’t go to plan though, as Harry accidentally offends Nigel.
After having a heart-to-heart about his circumstances, Nigel lets Phil help him. He then persuades Phil to go for a New Year’s drink with the rest of the Mitchells at Harry’s Barn.
Could Nigel help Phil through his current woes? These scenes will also air on December 30 and December 31.
In the wake of Cindy’s shock attack, EastEnders confirmed that the assailant’s identity will be revealed during the soap’s 40th anniversary week in February.
“Our 40th anniversary storylines have been in the works for some time, but even at the very start of planning, we knew that we wanted to reveal the identity of Cindy’s attacker as part of this,” said executive producer Chris Clenshaw.
“Many characters currently find themselves in the line of question, but over the coming weeks, the audience themselves can look out for clues to who may be the culprit.
“Cindy’s attacker reveal is just one of the many stories we have planned for the anniversary as it is set to be a week of explosive drama for the audience to remember.”
