This article contains spoilers for tonight’s episode of EastEnders which airs on BBC One at 7.30pm, but is available to view now on BBC iPlayer.
Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) has confirmed to boyfriend Peter Beale (Thomas Law) where she was on the night his mum Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) was attacked – and it’s seriously shocking.
As we all know, Cindy was struck over the head with a snow shovel on Christmas Day in the aftermath of her estrangement from both the Beale and Knight families.
Lauren has exposed her affair with Junior Knight (Micah Balfour), by gifting Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) a USB stick containing an incriminating recording of her confessing to the fling.
The act of revenge was sparked after Cindy admitted to supplying pregnant Lauren with illegal painkillers following injuries she’d sustained during the Peggy’s club crush.
When the BBC soap celebrates its 40th anniversary next month, the true identity of the attacker will be revealed – but they could’ve just dropped a huge clue!
Earlier this week, Cindy awoke from her coma and had a lot of questions about what had happened to her. The last she remembered, she was taking a stroll through the Square Gardens whilst waiting for her taxi to flee the area.
Initially suspecting that Ian was to blame, he reassured her that if he had tried to kill her, he’d have finished the job.
DCI Arthurs (Ian Burfield) informed her that it was likely that the suspect was somebody she knew, and before long Lauren was arrested.
In tonight’s episode, she was questioned and continued to protest her innocence.
Peter and Lauren’s cousin Penny (Kitty Castledine) were waiting for her at the station, and demanded Arthurs produce some evidence that had led to her arrest.
Without giving explicit details, he alluded to the fact Cindy – who previously had no knowledge of the incident – had dobbed her in.
Back at the hospital, Peter charged in, demanding to know why his mum had lied and telling her to retract her statement.
But there could be some substance to her claims… Cindy explained that as she was lay in the snow, she saw Lauren rush off.
Maybe she was telling the truth afterall!
Lauren was on edge during her interview, and began to cautiously come clean about something, but her solicitor soon intervened and managed to secure her bail.
Having headed home, she broke down in Peter’s arms and confessed that she was at the crime scene – and had turned Cindy’s body over in shock.
