EastEnders is set to reveal the identity of Cindy Beale’s attacker during the soap’s 40th anniversary week.
Cindy was attacked on Christmas Day (December 25) by an unknown assailant after her various secrets were exposed, with the character being left for dead in
Albert Square’s gardens after being hit on the head with a shovel.
With several members of the community seemingly having a motive for the crime, a search for Cindy’s attacker will soon get underway – and it’s now been confirmed that their identity will be revealed during the soap’s 40th anniversary week in February.
“Our 40th anniversary storylines have been in the works for some time, but even at the very start of planning, we knew that we wanted to reveal the identity of Cindy’s attacker as part of this,” said EastEnders executive producer Chris Clenshaw.
“Many characters currently find themselves in the line of question, but over the coming weeks, the audience themselves can look out for clues to who may be the culprit.
Cindy’s attacker reveal is just one of many stories we have planned for the anniversary as it is set to be a week of explosive drama for the audience to remember.”
The attack came after Cindy’s affair with Junior Knight, the son of her ex-husband George, was exposed by daughter-in-law Lauren Branning. Lauren had herself had been blackmailed by Cindy, after discovering her involvement in Kojo Asare’s fall which left him seriously ill in hospital.

The various admissions, which caused the breakdown of several relationships in addition to her own with Ian, led to Cindy arranging a taxi to leave Walford moments before she was attacked and left in a critical condition.
In addition to the reveal of Cindy’s attacker, the 40th anniversary week will also include a special live episode, with several past stars also rumoured to be returning to the soap after some time away.
