EastEnders‘ Anna Knight has confirmed a crucial piece to the puzzle of Cindy Beale’s attack.

In recent scenes, the BBC soap implied one of the Knights could be behind the Christmas incident. Yesterday’s (January 21) episode saw George and Elaine find the shovel used in the crime in a barrel store at The Vic.

The aftermath of the discovery threw a wedge between the Knight clan, as George and Elaine weighed their options to find the culprit in Wednesday’s (January 22) episode.

“Do you really think it’s one of the family?” Elaine asked her husband after they found blood and a blonde hair strand, probably belonging to Cindy, on the shovel.

“I don’t know what I think,” a pensive George replied, determined to question his daughters Anna and Gina.

At the Vic, George quizzed Gina about her whereabouts the night of the attack. Insulted by her father’s suspicions about her, she assured she was with “a mate” that night and went back to the bar.

Later on, Elaine caught Anna looking frantically for the shovel. The publican immediately called George so they could have a chat with his younger daughter.

“Anna, please. You’ve got to tell us everything,” he pleaded with her.

George was taken aback to realise Anna had known about the shovel all along — though she insisted she wasn’t the one who put it here.

“I didn’t hit mum, I swear it. You’ve got to believe me,” she said.

She explained she found the weapon covered up in the corner when she returned to the Vic on Christmas night in need of a drink.

“I didn’t know what to do. I thought it must’ve been one of us so I hid it,” Anna continued.

She then confirmed the barrel store door wasn’t locked when she found it.

“Good,” said George. “If it was locked, coppers would assume it was one of us. But as it was open, well, anyone could’ve dumped it. Anyone.”

However, Elaine still had her doubts about Gina… as she saw coming out of the barrel store on Christmas night.
