EastEnders aired an update in the relationship between Martin Fowler and Ruby Allen after they shared a kiss on New Year’s Eve.
Ruby returned to Walford in November last year following a spell behind bars, subsequently revealing to ex-husband Martin that she had secretly given birth to
their son, Roman, whilst incarcerated.
Roman has since been in hospital after being diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis, with Martin offering to be the donor to enable the youngster’s liver transplant. Despite having a tense relationship, Martin and Ruby got closer on New Year’s Eve at the hospital, where they shared a kiss.
This naturally confused Martin’s own relationship with Stacey Slater, who fell short of confessing her feelings for him over the festive period. Whilst she was busy in the aftermath of Suki and Eve’s wedding, Thursday’s (January 2) episode began with Martin calling Ruby.
The storylines converged as Stacey called Martin to inform him what had happened at the wedding, telling him to meet her at the hospital. She was surprised to discover that Ruby was in tow, with the character motionless as she was hugged.
Despite attempting to console Stacey, Ruby felt the brunt of her anger as Stacey remarked that her former foe was merely here for a “pulling session”, with Ruby subsequently storming off as she said that she should “never have come”.

A disgruntled Martin shared his belief that Stacey should apologise to Ruby for her behaviour, though she was in a defiant mood as she cited Ruby’s chequered history. After Martin asked Stacey if she was “jealous”, Stacey remarked that she “didn’t care” if Ruby wanted to flirt with him.
Martin and Ruby shared a conversation as he confessed his feelings for her, sharing that he wanted to rekindle their past relationship. As they locked lips once more, a heartbroken Stacey watched on – has she now missed her chance with Martin?
